Hi, can someone tell me the best way to get from Nagoya to
Tokyo? Bullet train or plane? (and how long each option
takes and the cost). My starting point would be the Nagoya
Airport. Thanks.

  1. Nagoya to Tokyo Added by: Angles

As far as I can see there are no flights from Nagoya to the
Tokyo domestic airport (Haneda) (too close?) and only two
flights a day to the Tokyo International airport (Narita).
Narita is a LONG way outside Tokyo (it will take over an
hour to get into the city), so unless you are connecting to
a flight at Narita then I think the shinkansen (bullet
train) is altogether the best option.
Take the bus from Nagoya airport to Nagoya station (870 yen,
takes about 30 mins) and then take the bullet train to Tokyo
    (about 10,000 yen, 1.5 hours).
[For reference if you wanted to fly then the details are:
ANA has flights from Nagoya to Narita at 0740 and 1730 each
day, cost is 12,900 yen (although you can get discounts if
you can book more than 2 weeks in advance) and flight time
is one hour. You would then need to take a train into Tokyo
    - JR has a rapid service that takes a little over one hour
and costs about 1500 yen I think]
    Hope that helps

  2. Forget the plane Added by: Trevor

Like Angles said, the shinkansen is the way to go.
My train/plane software agrees with Angles - the best way is
to get a bus from Nagoya airport to Nagoya (45 minutes,
around 850 yen), then the Bullet Train (Hikari) to Tokyo
(113 minutes, around 10200yen). The other advantage with the
Bullet Train is you (might) get to see Mt Fuji and the
    gorgeous coastline around Atami.

  4. Tight Budget? Added by: Philip

Taking bullet train (Shinkansen) is far better than taking
a plane. But if you are on tight budget, have plenty of
time and have no JR pass. You can also take a coach from
Nagoya station. Bus leaves every hour and take about 7
hours. It costs about 6000 yen. Take an airport bus (ONLY
the one to JR station for shinkansen). You will get off
opposite the JR station. Walk through the station to reach
to the other side, on your left you will find a passage
(between a hotel and department store), walk through it and
you will find the JR bus terminal.
