Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain visas for any
of the Central Asian republics in China? Thanks in advance.

If you thought that Chinese red tape was bad, wait until
you get to those countries. I have been to Pakistan 4 times
and Kashgar in western China and i hear some horrendous
stories about those countries. No, you won't be murdered,
but you will be paying losts of bribes at borders etc or
you don't go anywhere. Try going to Pakistan - if you want
a cultural experience. Forget everything you have ever
heard about muslim extremists - you will be treated like
royalty and people will do almost anything to help you. I
have heard the Tajikistan is the nicest of the Central
Asian countries, but there is a war there at the moment - a
    bit of a problem.
