I'm intending to travel to Canada in the next few weeks and
want to know if there is a cheap, good hostel in Montreal.
I'm also going to visit a friend in Moncton and so I'm
wondering what kind of public transport is available.

The HI in Montreal is probably one of the best: relaxed,
convenient, great kitchen and lounge area.

  3. Montreal to Monkton Added by: Peter Bryan (oldpot@hotmail)

I concur with the recommendation of HI Montreal. You could start your journey to Monkton by taking the Moose Bus (www.moosetransportco.com) from Montreal to Quebec City. From there it is bus or hitchhike. If you have enjoyed Montreal and Quebec City you could go back from Quebec to Ottawa on the Moose Bas and on to Carman Trails which is 25km North of Ottawa. Carman Trails is another HI affiliate but in the country - beautiful country - with lots of outdoor activities, good food and good music.

VIA-rail has a direct train from Montreal or Quebec to Moncton and on to Halifax. Check them out at www.viarail.ca
