New Orleans

We are staying at the hotel LaSalle the 4th of July weekend. Does anybody know what this hotel is like? Is this a good place to stay at in New Orleans?
We are also going to drive a scenic byway from New Orleans to Houston. It looks like there is a lot to see if we drive Houma - Thibodaux - Morgan City - New Iberia - Lafayette - Abbeville - and then along the Gulf of Mexico. Does anyone know of this area? Is this worth using time on or is it better to drive the highway ?

...Although it looks fascinating on a map, it is a pretty boring drive across incredibly flat and featureless land, with more traffic than you would really like, and there isn't anything to see along the way---although some Louisiana towns like Franklin are pretty nice. Maybe the best diversion would be to turn off at Winnie, Texas, and take the road through High Island and across the Bolivar Ferry to Galveston, then up to Houston. Take the River Road (La-18) from New Orlenas to Baton Rouge, then old US-190 from there to Beaumont TX if you want to avoid the Interstate.

I haven't stayed at the LaSalle but I have gone by it. Right on Cananl st which at night seemed a bit on the dicey side , alot of street youth hanging out. i wouldn't do this as a single woman but you'll probably be ok as a couple. This was a while ago so maybe things have gotten better. I assume you are doing this for the price, if I ciould find something similar in price I would check that out.

The LaSalle is the best bargain in NO. Close to everything,
    cheap, secure, charming.
