I will be arriving at Miami Intl at 9.30 at night and want to find a cheap safe way to get to the Banana Bungalows in Miami beach. Does any one know how much the airport shuttle costs, or are the public buses safe at night?
Also does anyone have an opinion on the Banana Bungalow, they seem pretty good, but is there a better hostel in the area?, I will be there for 3 days.
Thanks

The Banana Bungalow is at 2360 Collins Avenue on Miami Beach
-- it is a few blocks north of the main part of South Beach
- but South Beach is not very big. The only other
hostal/hotel that I know of is the Clay Hotel -- which is
more in the heart of things (at Washington Avenue and
Espanola Way -- an easy walk to the
clubs/shops/cafes/street market. The Mermaid Guesthouse is
also in a great location at 9th and Collins (it is smaller
and very tropical). I haven't seen the rooms in any of
these places - but I do know the owners of the Mermaid --
and they are very nice people (and you might fall privy to a
great musical jam session in their tiny little bar).
There is an airport shuttle service to south beach "Super
Shuttle" (I think it will cost about $15.00). I don't know
the bus schedule -- but I suspect that you would have to
transfer to another bus after taking one from the airport --
and the transfer would most likely be at "Government
Station" in western edge of downtown Miami -- not something
I would recommend at night alone if you don't know Miami
well.
Once you are in South Beach try to pick up a copy of the
"New Times" (Miami's freebie equivalent to the Village
Voice) to check out the latest of all that is going on.
