We are a family of 2A 3C (16,15,7) wanting to visit Cape
Canavral/ Kennedy Space Centre in July from Orlando.
Prices for tours pretty steep. Can you just show up there
if we hired a car, or do you need official booking?
Any idea of entrance fees and times/days of opening?
Anyone been. How long do you need to spend there?
Thanks Robyn.

I think most, if not all, of your questions if you go to
    this site:
    http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/

Being a space fan, I went there but was very
disappointed. Try to time it when you can at
least see a Space Shuttle somewhere.

We were there in Jan 98 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
2 adults and a 10year old boy. We spent the full day and
could have stayed longer. The space shuttle was getting
ready for launching later in the month. Enjoy your visit!

Okay, it's been a few years since I was there but I really
enjoyed it. I spent about 5 hours there and it was all
free!!! I didn't get to see the shuttle launch but I did get
to see the shuttle on the pad which was pretty awe
inspiring. You'll have a great time. Safe travels, Sue

admission to the centre is free, but you have to pay to go
on the bus tours and see IMAX films. Skip the films,
they're pretty lame. I think the tour alone costs about $12
per person. I don't think you can really drive around on
your own and try to replicate the tours: first off, it is a
working facility, so there is lots of security:you have to
drive though checkpoints, second, its a very big place:some
of the sites you visit on the bus are about 10 miles from
the visitor centre. Finally, I have to agree with Rick, the
place was kind of disappointing, as you couldn't get too
close to anything (they take you to an observation tower,
which is still about 1km from the launch pad).
