Any information on travelling with a 23month old in April in
Zimbabwe and Zambia. We would like fairly good hotels that
are kid friendly. Also, we may go to a reserve, but I don't
know if they let kids in and are they safe for children.
Any advice would be great....

We are doing a self drive holiday but he is booking hotels etc that are kid friendly. there are reserves you can go to. When are you going, if over Easter I should book quickly - school hols there as well!

Tried to post reply to you item but to no avail its not appeared. Here's the jist agian - we did a budget backpacking trip and found Zim very child friendly, had no problems with accomodation (we just had our then 15mth old in with us) and we were allowed everywhere restaurants and the odd pub for a beer to beat the heat. We travelled from Harare to Bulawayo to Vic Falls on o/night trains - booked a 1st class sleeper for 2 and shared baby then. He loved waking up and sticking his head out the window and having the wind in his hair and looking at the scenery. Stayed at Shaka's spear in Bulawayo (not the niocest place but they owners have 2 young kids who Zach played with and in a rondavel cottage in Vic Falls ($us10/adult/night) which I would recommend. Hank Van Der Wyn (I think) met us at the trainstation and took us there - very friendly guy - the cottage was great for us - self-catering, cool and away from the masses (only 5 mins to town) and he was eager to drop us in and show us around.
As for parks we didn't hit any as we thought we'd go back when the boy was older as every animal he saw he pointed at and said woof! so I couldn't comment on accommodation and how they are with them. We went on a day trip to Matabo Nat Park and our guide was great - carrying the baby around and including him in the group - Zach loved it as did we. We travelled in the back of a truck there and back which was another highlight for him.
One tip I could add is that nappies are very expensive (twice london price) - luckily we took a pack of 30 with us in a backpack and when it ran out we were in SA which wasn't as expensive. However the extra room in our bag allowed us to buy heaps of pressies (especially wood carvings from Newlands markets in Harare -easily the best and cheapest in the country.
Any more specific questions - feel free to ask
    Regards and good luck
    Crispin
