Dear All
We are spending 10 days in Greece in early June (flying into and out of Athens) and was wondering where us two adults with 20 month old could go for some good beaches, reasonably priced self-catering accomodation and some spectalular sites and ruins. Anyone done it before? All suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance
Chris

  1. No kids - but.. Added by: Mo

I went island hopping last summer and there were loads of
people with kids - most were heading to Paros and Naxos -
the place I stayed in Paros had a lovely beach with shallow
water (sand bars and stuff) - think it was called Camping
Surfing Beach - it had rooms to rent as well though and a
decent pool with pretty good facilities. There were water
sports on the beach for the grown ups and a beach bar etc.
It did get quite loud in some parts of the camp but there
were a lot of kids too so it can't have been all bad. The
ferry from Athens took ages but I think we were unlucky with
timings - Greece definitly runs on its own special time - it
should have taken about 4/5 hours I think - the ferry we went
on had lots of facilities though so wouldn't be too boring
for kids - the ones on there seemed to be enjoying themselves
anyway. Anti Paros also had some nice beaches (get passenger
ferry from Paros port) but there were very few facilities in
terms of shade etc. Hope thats some help.

Try Paros and anti Paros. We stayed at Camping Surfing Beach
in the North of the island in a camp site with rooms to rent
as well - there were loads of kids there - the beach was big
with shallow water (sand bars etc) and activities for the
grown ups too. The ferry from Athens took about 4 hours I
think and there were buses to the camp site meeting you at the
ports. Had a swimming pool and restaurant, beach bar etc.

I tried to post this a moment ago so it may arrive twice.

Hi everyone!! We are taking our two kids 5 and 7 to Athens and an island in the Cyclades. We would appreciate any info about good beaches, inexpensive but comfortable accommodation and a pretty village.

Just come back from Greece (see post no.43) with our ten
month old and had a great time.
Agree that Naxos & Paros both very good, Thira also
excellent but beaches a bit grey and grainy. the other great
place is Crete, especially the Western end (near to Chania)
with resorts like Paleachora having good beaches and
    facilities.
We chose to try to avoid the smaller islands this time (a
bit too remote if any medical problems arose - anxious I
know - but the bigger islands are just as good. And the
ferries are not that bad or slow at all.
One big tip, learn at least some Greek, it really does open
doors and help the locals to respect you more!
    Enjoy
