We are a family of five (children ages are 12, 10, 6) who
typically take very active, outdoors vacations (rafting,
hiking, horsepack trips). This summer we will be spending
three weeks in England. We would like to find outdooors
oriented activities as a way to explore England. Any
suggestions on horse/pony trips, walking trips, fishing,
exploring with children? Thanks.

Our family of 5 (with children of 15,14,11) recently did a
car trip of England and Scotland. We had a wonderful few
days staying at the Y in Whitby on the east coast and doing
day trips inland into North Yorkshire. A highlight was the
North Yorkshire Moors Railway Line. Not only did we see the
town of Goathland - Heartbeat's Aidensfield, but the day
rail pass gave us all a great day on the steam trains and a
hike between stations. It is a great area to explore on foot
and is soooo different from home.

The Wharfedale area of Yorkshire is also lovely. The
Derbyshire Peaks can get very busy, especially around
Edale. You really should try & get to the Lake District
(even though it can be very busy - try mid week). Wales is
very good for Pony trekking and visiting castles.
Northumberland has beautiful and often deserted coastlines,
but you would have to be very hardy to swim in the sea.

I love to fish and hunt. I was born in Louisiana. I
grew up in the woods. I just wanted people to vote and see
if you think it is alright to fish and hunt or not. Then,
say why or why not. E-mail me if you have any questions.
    Thank you for you time.
