INVITED TO VISIT AUSTRALIA

I have a 3 year old daughter and would like to take her
with me to visit a friend who lives in Port Macquarie,
N.S.W. I don't know what to expect. When would be the best
time of year to travel to Australia. I live in Canada and I
am also dreading the loooong flight I'd have to make to get
there. Especially with a very active 3 year old. Please, if
anyone has travelled to Australia with kids, from Canada or
U.S.A., I'd appreciate any great travel tips.
Thanks

  1. Damn long trip! Added by: Angela

Well it is a very long flight over. The trick is to arrive
at the airport suffering from lack of sleep so that you can
sleep for most of the flight. I have moved to Melbourne
from B.C. 3 years ago and have flown back and forth several
times. Although I have no children yet, I have found that
most young children do amazingly well on the flight. Bring
plenty of toys and activities for your child to do, and a
favourite pillow or blanket. I have also noticed that
children seem enjoy listening to the radio or movies on the
headsets. Sometimes the flight attendants will give you a
break and take your child down to the kitchen area for a
stroll around the plane (Go Air New Zealand!)Despite how
long it sounds, it really is worth the trip. Australia's a
great place (not as good as Canada of course!). I would
recommend you make your trip in the late spring or summer
but I don't know that there is any horrible time to come.
Enjoy the trip, I'm sure you'll love it!

  2. travel is not so bad Added by: sue (sowens@one.net.au)

I live in Australia, 1hour from Port Macquarie and love my shopping days up there.
I have also been to Canada & America travelling with my 3 children 4,6,8. We flew most of the way Qantas naturally but also a Canadian air? (I think) which was a great airline. If your child travels well in a car they will travel as well in a plane, they keep there seatbeats on and usually stay put. Bring books colouring in stuff ect, and relax and enjoy the flight. Young children usually sleep on planes, or maybe take a night flight.
You will Love Port Macquarie, there are the beaches lots of cheap fun places to take kids, good shopping and really friendly people, maybe I might see you there myself.
Don't put it off though, the best times to come to Oz are from October to April but its never as cold as your Canada, which we travelled in, in May and it was cold
    Happy Travelling!!!
