How far is Pokhra from Kathmandu? What's the best way to
travel?
Am travelling end May. How's the weather? Not too wet I
hope?

Pokhara's about 4 hours drive from Kathmandu, fairly well
the only way to get there is by bus or mini-bus. The mini
buses are supposed to be more dangerous, though I'm not sure
why, and I'd recommend them, as they're faster and newer
than the normal buses. You can book through almost all the
travel agents in Kathmandu, especially in Thamel or around
Freak Street. It shouldn't be very wet at the end of May, I
was there at the beginning of June, and the rain hadn't
really started yet. The views won't be at their best though.
I recommend walking or taking a taxi to Sarankot for a
better view of the Annapurnas, but you'll have to leave
really early to get there before the clouds spread, I'd say
about 5.30am. Good luck!!
You can also fly from KTM and the flight is great as you
fly parallel to the mighty peaks. It is about half an hour
and fairly inexpensive. Check with Royal Nepal for fares
or LP. Fly to Pokhara then perhaps bus back or via Chitwan
is another option if you don't mind heat.

Every time I've been to Pokhara on the bus it's taken at least 7 - 8 hrs. It's a great trip tho' if you only have to do it a couple of times. Certainly cheap! Flying, if you can afford it is a good idea for the aerial views, better still a helecopter. You have to "know" someone tho!!! Monsoon season doesn't usually start until mid June, so it will be pretty hot & humid in May. Great time to go tho, not so many tourists as it's off season then. You should be able to get a discount on accomodation. Hire a bicycle or motor bike to take yourself out into the countryside, where you'll experience the REAL Nepal. Beautiful place, enjoy!!
I was in Pokhara a week and a half ago, and the weather
seemed to follow a pattern - sunny in the morning
developing into a spectacular thunderstorm in the afternoon,
which sometimes cut out the electricity, and caused the
roads to turn into a mud bath.
It's a really nice city though - and the Auto Rickshaws
haven't arrived there yet, thank god!
It's a good time to go if you don't mind the hoardes of
Indians who arrive trying to escape the scorching heat of
India at this time. But then I'd say any time is a good
time to go to Nepal - a fantastic country!
As for the bus journey - if you take a tourist coach expect
to take up to 5 hours. A local bus can take up to 8 hours.
Be careful though, there have been a lot of road accidents,
some fatal, and I know some people who took the quicker but
far more expensive flight to Pokhara just to avoid the
dangerous mini bus journey.
N.B. The flight will cost up to about $40, but the
locals/indians will be paying 800 rupees - $12. I guess
thats life!
Enjoy

I have travelled the road from ktm to pok several times
booth during the july monsoon ('94) and high season (97) I
do not forsee any problems. Some busses might take a bit
longer than expected (up to 11 hrs) but the views are
stunning. For serious if your not only looking to the
promised mountain views but also do not miss the local
nepali live which is really worthwile.
BTW Iam currently planning to go there this year as well in
october to do some trekking around the annapurna's
