If you are serious, I suggest buying the 'Lonely
Planet' "India" travelbook that I used on my trips to
India. Buy it before you go and research a loose itinerary
around it. You will sift out the gems with its advice. I
envy the pace you will be experiencing India at with a year-
    long trip.

crazy but I really like Lucknow. I think it is all about

I spent about one year in India also, setting up a "home
base" of rented bungalow in Kodaikanal then visiting other
places. I really liked the old British hill stations, Kodai
among them. I know they're not really Indian or really British
any more either but an interesting and intense hybrid. Some
retain more of the old traditions, some are now much more like
the rest of India, but they're never dull. Just a personal
    opinion.
