has anyone out there been to Bhutan.
Any hints about getting a visa and
what to do if you only have a few days ?

Alex,
I've never been, but from what I've read, you can go quite
easily, but you have to organize through a travel agent,
and pay a $200/day charge for the privilege of visiting!
This includes accommodation I believe.

If I were you I'd check w/a travel agent, decide if it fits
in your budget and then get the LP guide. I've seen posts
on Bhutan here before, but they never seem to get much
response, presumably b/c it's so pricey to visit!

Good luck!

I have been to lovely Bhutan. The country is slowly opening
up (TV is about to reach the rural areas, and I have mixed
feelings about that), but it is most unspoiled and
breathtakingly beautiful.
The per day per person cost is about US$200, includes
accommodation. The price operators charge is set by the
govt. tourist agency. The only way to avoid this is to be
working in Butan or to be a guest at the home of a Bhutanese
citizen.
