I am surprised I have not yet seen a post on Dana Plato,
the former "Diff'rent Strokes" star (Kimberly), dead at 34.
While it is true that one should not judge another without
walking a mile in their shoes, it disturbs me that Dana
Plato destroyed her life the way she did. If I had been
given all that Dana Plato had been given, I would have made
a real life for myself and would not have succumbed to the
tempations and travesty that she did. Many of us do not
have it as easy as she did. Were I Dana Plato, I would
have invested well the money she earned from "Diff'rent
Strokes," married a nice man, produced children, and would
now be living a happy and low-profile life somewhere on the
Westside in L.A.: getting recognized once in a while while
shopping at the Pavilions supermarket, taking my kids to
school at Paul Revere Junior High School, going to Mazatlan
on vacation, supporting my husband's career somewhere near
the middle of the entertainment-industry totem pole,
appearing dutifully for the E! "Where are they now?"
people, etc. I would have loved to have Dana Plato's life,
and I would have exceled as her.

oh, did I mention YAWN!
does not request the resumes of those she is about to smile
upon. Perhaps if only she did, then only those worthy would
bask in her grin.
There's a certain rhythm to the prose that is strangely
familar.
...who do you think I am?
NOT ME.

You obviously have no inkling of the world of show business
other than that gained through US magazine. The pressure
drives all but the hardiest to the soporific release of
drugs or alchohol to some degree. It is being caught between
a rock and a hard place; the overwhelming desire to be a
performer/actor and the mind numbing schedules imposed by
the ruthless agents and cut throat competition. Go to just a
casting call sometime and see the tears and tribulation.
Some win, some lose. That's showbiz.
Was she related to that old philosopher?
For all you know, Dana Plato's life was going to be shit
whether it was you living it for her or not. Bet you'd be
laughing on the other side of your face if it WAS you dead
and burried (or whatever) now wouldn't you huh? Don't be
such a damned fool and presume you can live someone else's
life better than they can. Although, Dana could probably
had a hell of a good time fitting into your banal life if
she'd had the chance.
You can't plan it. You don't know if you are going to meet
a "nice" man and have children. You can't tell if you are
going to be happy. You've been reading too many fairy tales
that end with "and they lived happily ever after."
How did she die again?
Wrong - One can chose whether or not (s)he will be happy.
In that case, wouldn't we all choose to be happy? I see
lots of miserable people about. Do they choose to be
miserable? I don't think so.
Better dead than a 32 yr old Gary Coleman playing laser tag
with kids in Glendale while someone is living large off your
$20 million(as seen on 20/20 last week).
i'm no candide, and this is not the best of all possible
worlds- i'm not going to lie about it- but you can choose to
be happy with what hand you're dealt, and joke about your
losses because none of it really belonged to you, anyway (and
i'm not promoting any of that "you can do anything you want"
jargon that is so popular here in the us)
