While responding to another thread, I mentioned my
procrasination problem. Are there any other devoted
procrastinators out there, and what methods do you use to
aid in this procratination? (eg posting on chatlines all
day). How can I stop procrastinating and actually get some
work done? I realise I sound pathetic, but I really could
use some advice.

Give up.Nothing will work. Once a procrastinator always a procrastinator.
You will be dead in 40 or 50 years so why worry about it now.
There really is no cure for procrastination. I'm a big
procrastinator myself...I would do just about ANYTHING to
put off work, school, etc. If there is a cure for this, I
would like to know it too.
Nirvana fan's advice may explain why every morning I get
out of bed convinced that this will be a constructive day.
Of course I end up procrastinating. I believe that if you
don't stress about it, procrastinating can be quite
therapeutic.
I tidy my desk, sharpen my pencils, make heaps of drinks.
A leopard can't change it's spots.
Just accept it.
If I had a solution for that one I'd gladly practice it
myself ! Heck, as long as they still pay you a salary...
raspberry cordial has a lot to answer for !!!
I'm a chronic case myself. I haven't found any solutions,
but if you find any, pass them along. One thing I do know is
that this site sure doesn't help...
Perhaps we need to start holding procrastinators anonymous
(PA) meetings. 'Course, none of us would ever show up.
Perhaps our common procrastinatory problems are what lead us
all here!
that works is to disconnect the modem and give it to your better half....for it not to be returned regardless of how much you threatren, beg and plead....
A bit of a problem at work...especially for me as I work from home and need the internet connection for my job.......but if you can, just like giving up smoking, try and go cold turkey for an hour, then a day , then a week etc etc etc...until the owrk is up to date.
I always thought TTYC was in essence a Procrastinators
Anoymous cyberspace meeting. After all that is why we use
handles.
No i do not drink VB. All I know about your hair is what I
have read onn ttyc. Perhaps if this is what you do to avoid
doing work you should (wait for it) get a haircut and get a
real job. (ha hah ha)
My name is Inquisitor and I'm a procrastinator. I haven't
had a procratination episode in 2.5 minutes......hey, this
is good therapy. I might have to keep up with
Procrasinators Anonymous, it sure is a great way to keep
from getting any work done.
I have a sign over my desk at work. It says.. "They said it couldn't be done...............................so, I didn't do it." Works well for me.
posted at work that shows a man on the phone saying...

"Thursday wont work. What about never? Is never good for
you?"

I think you have to see it to appreciate it. :)
Are you hiding behind this handle? What is your usual one?
I had a haircut over the weekend actually, now my style is
the two inch long mullet cut, with a very respectable rats
tail. Now that's what I call fashion. Your advice is
probably sound, but how can I get a real job when I spend a
great proportion of my day here on ttyc? A job would
require me to concentrate for periods of longer than 90
seconds, which is something I have been trying to avoid for
most of my adult life.
....tomorrow
I've found that I have an order of procrastination, that is, priorities, and that I generally only procrastinate just so much. So, when I greatly overload myself with things to do, I get at least _some_ things done. Taking a class is a good one; when I have to write a paper, I can't sit there long looking at a blank sheet or screen, and am prompted to fire up the vacuum cleaner, do my taxes, start spring cleaning, _anything_ else except for what should require my immediate attention. So, I may not get the dreaded #1 priority done, but I get lots of other unpleasant things done.
.
Now, Thorn Tree addiction, or any other compulsive behavior, is another story. When it interferes with my work, the only thing that works for me is not to get started.
I'd probably be over this procastination thing if only I
could get myself to read the book on procrastination that a
friend gave me eight years ago...
