  1. Really! Added by: Fearghal O'Scanlan
[Timestamp: Sat 25 July, 8:45 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Well, if he is the person who presented tonights programme on Channel Four, he should learn to speak English a little bit better, then most of us might have a chance of understanding him.

  2. 100% Ian Added by: Rolhy

Ian's the best, Did the last respondent (Fearghal) even understand the question?

  3. Tell Me More! Added by: James (fielding@burnet.edu.au)
[Timestamp: Mon 27 July, 15:55 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I live in Melbourne, Australia and the LP travel
show has only been on here for three weeks. We
have only been to the Pacific Islands (Cook
Islands and Vanuatu I think), Morocco and Jamaica
so far, all hosted by Ian Wright. I think he is
qunny, although at times I think he was a little
disrespectful of some of the cultures he visited
by playing up to the camera during important
cultural ceremonies. However, I haven't seen any
other episodes yet with other presenters so I
can't compare Ian with the others. Can you let me
know how many episodes are in the series and other
    destinations which they visit?

  4. I adore Ian Added by: susan
[Timestamp: Thu 30 July, 6:26 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I absolutely adore Ian, and I think his accent is charming.
I have no problem understanding him, and I'm Canadian. I
love the way that he is absolutely honest about everything
    and doesn't sugar-coat. I also really like Justine's style,
and I wish that they had other female travellers as well.
I'm particulary interested to see what it would be like for
a single woman travelling in a strict Muslim country.

  5. Any more episodes.. Added by: Karen
[Timestamp: Fri 31 July, 3:30 Tasmanian Standard Time]

In Canada we get the show on the Outdoor Life Network every
night. I've been watching for about two months, and I'm
starting to see repeats. Does anyone know what year they
made most of the episodes, and are they making any new ones?
Also, I would put my vote in for Ian as well, although
Justine is a close second. I've seen another guy, Andrew I
think his name was. He went to northern India and he was
also very good. The girl who went to northern Spain (don't
remember her name) had a really nice style, but I've only
    seen her once.

  6. lphosts Added by: iain (imiain@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Mon 3 August, 14:03 Tasmanian Standard Time]

if you look at the end of the credits of every show it gives
you the year the show was made. i enjoyed the girl that
trekked in uganda and jumped across the border to zaire.
ive been to this part of the world when the gorrillas were
accessible in zaire its a sensational area. the host got
malaria and we never saw her again can you tell me what
happened lp. finally if you watch the episodes in a
general order it is interesting to see how the regular
hosts ian and justine change from start to finish.
justine especially when she began was rude and
disrespectful of other cultures like most americans
really. but later in the series she is much more accepting
of her situations, its quite a transformation and you
realise what travelling does to a person as they have to
rely on other peoples good will. its a great teacher of how
to be a good human. youve learnt a lot justine. as for ian
he puts his personality on the line every show but
initially in early shows he holds back more.
eventually he appears to understand the rewards
that are to be reaped by putting yourself out there.
laughter and smiles being one of these rewards. fantastic
stuff. unfortunately he might have a tough time returning to
non travel life when he finally hangs em up. its a tough
adjustment, i recently found this out. bets on how old he is
i thought 26 but friends think 32. help lp.to anyone else
reading this and thinking about travelling GO FOR IT. it
changed my life forever. now i work for an airline and
backpack hungup, travel in style. cheers lp although you
    seem a bit upmarket nowdays.

  7. We'll Go For Ian Added by: Skip and Ling
[Timestamp: Sat 8 August, 22:20 Tasmanian Standard Time]

My wife and I watch the show every week and we really like
Ian. He is amusing and friendly, and has a real respect for
the different cultures. Watch out for him in the ones about
Baja, Corsica and Japan. No problems with his accent too!
Nicki (the one in Uganda) is also good.

  8. Justine, but she needs to dress more properly Added by: jo
[Timestamp: Mon 17 August, 16:50 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Justine did improve over time, but the way she ran about Eastern Turkey in singlets and bum skimming skirts was aggravating. The suggestion in #6 that Justine do a show in a strict Muslim country would be good only if she could be more respectful of cultural dress norms for women and all the tech people accompanying her were women too - who knows how much a male cameraman might be smoothing the way for her when the film isn't rolling. Justine was born in South Africa, so she's not as American as she could be but you'd never guess it from her earlier shows. Justine - please practice what lonely planet preaches and cover up!

  9. What channel? Added by: Don (DNB3@aol.com)
[Timestamp: Sun 23 August, 16:35 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Lonely Planet used to be televised on the Discovery Channel
on my cable system. It no longer is. Does anyone know if
it airs on any other channel? Thanks
    Don (Sacramento, CA)

  10. ian the geester Added by: beth (wired.disaster@orangenet.co.uk)
[Timestamp: Thu 3 Sept, 4:28 Tasmanian Standard Time]

ian is definately the coolest. he's so chilled & down to
    earth.
    IAN IS GOD!!!!

  11. Ian!!! Added by: Neener
[Timestamp: Thu 3 Sept, 4:45 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I am also a huge fan of Ian. His facial expressions
absolutly crack me up. I think he is very charming but
mostly I love that he isn't affraid to try out everything.
I hope the next time I go somewhere I can take on his
attitude. It doesn't surprise me that he is working with
kids now. You can see his compassion for them come trough
in the way he plays with the masses of kids that surround
him when he visits remote villages.
I never used to watch TV but now I look forward to
getting home and watching LP. I love to travel and really
appreciate how the hosts get into the grit of things. I
live in British Columbia, Canada and to #12, if you get a
channel called the Outdoor Life Network look for the Lonley
Planet there. I am happy to have found this page and look
forward to hearing more about Ian Wright.

  12. Ian is the best Added by: tanya
[Timestamp: Sun 27 Sept, 23:17 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I definately agree Ian is the best of the bunch. He is so
layed back and a bit of a cack.
I think morocco was my favourite one
    Tanya

  13. Ian! Or, Neil. Added by: Megan (megan@magma.ca)
[Timestamp: Fri 2 Oct, 13:05 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Ian always gives me a good laugh. He's so charismatic and
honestthat I want to hug him at the end of every show. I
really loved when he ate half-digested grass out of a
caribou belly in Greenland. I nearly fell off the sofa.
(My mum hates Ian, though. She thinks his voice is really
    annoying.)
However, Neil Gibson does a bang-up job too. He was
particularly good in Pakistan...I loved when everyone on the
street applauded his newly-made Pakistani-style outfit.
Justine's not bad. Can't stand Shilpa Mehta. She's always
dress is horribly skimpy outfits - especially bad in shots
of her bicycling in Spain or when she was in the
    Philippines. What was she thinking?

I like Justine's style even more than Ian's but she should
    indeed dress up more properly!

  18. Ian: You the man!!! Added by: Marieke & Nienke Eerelman (A_C_E_80@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Tue 29 Dec, 8:28 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Ian's definately our favourite. With Justine it's an ok
show, but whenever Ian's on we absolutely go berserk! He
makes us want to get on the next plane and join him on his
    travels.
Tomorrow they're broadcasting the last episode (Cuba) here
in Holland. Does anybody know if there are new shows coming
up and if so where and when they will be broadcasted?
    'kay bye!

  19. Ian Rocks! Added by: Kelly (Squa_Pima@yahoo.com)
[Timestamp: Tue 5 Jan, 5:45 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Lonely Planet has a hit on their hands! Ian is a blast and
I love how the show represents different sides to each
country they go to. Ian, if you are on your way to Kenya
just let me know and I can show you what it is like living
    the village life near Mombasa!
    Kelly

I do like Ian, too! All my friends rave about him...but I
have to say my favorite is Neil...He is too much of a
sweetheart....keep it up everybody...I would be interested
in seeing less re-runs as well......Absolutely love it all!

[Timestamp: Wed 6 Jan, 10:47 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I've just been watching LP for the past three months and I
must say that I am addicted to it. I love watching the
shows where Ian or Neil are the hosts. I think they both
have a wonderful sense of humor and are quite charismatic.
There have been a lot of great shows with Ian hosting, but I
would also like to see more of Neil.

  22. Go Ian Added by: Marjan
[Timestamp: Thu 7 Jan, 4:44 Tasmanian Standard Time]

    Hi Lonley Planet fans,
The thing I like best about the series is the recognition of
the country if you have been there.
Me and my boyfriend were in Morocco last summer. We traveled
for 2000 km. I loved to see all the things we had seen on
the Morocco edition with Ian. But it was a bit sad that Ian
traveled so little kilometers in this great country. He
missed so many nice things. But I think he is really funny,
and has got a lot of guts!! (Although there is a cameracrew
beside him.) So Ian, go for it in the next country.
Bye, greetings from Nijmegen in Holland.
    Marjan

  23. My vote is for Ian!!! Added by: Leigh (rubino@tm.net.my)

I was just talking about him the other day to some
friends.....I am an American living in Malaysia, if you get
this way Ian and need some info drop me a line.

  24. Come to Canada!!! Added by: mike popowich (danpop@telusplanet.com)
[Timestamp: Thu 14 Jan, 20:52 Tasmanian Standard Time]

OF COURSE IAN IS THE BEST, BUT YOU GOTTA LOVE JUSTINE. I
LIKE HER BECAUSE SHE SEEMS MORE INEXPERIENCED, AND A LITTLE
CAUTIOUS OF TRYING NEW THINGS, WHICH I CAN RELATE TO. WHY
IS IT THAT LONELY PLANET NEVER GOES TO CANADA? THERE'S
TONNES OF STUFF TO DO, AND IT IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL
COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. i live in calgary, and anythime ian
or justine come through, ill be more than happy to show 'em
    around western canada!!

  25. what about shilpa!! Added by: eric(USA) (ericdecatur@hotbot.com)
[Timestamp: Sun 17 Jan, 19:10 Tasmanian Standard Time]

i admit, i do love ian and his style(his wit especially),
but i think shilpa is great also. i wish there were more
shows filmed with her, as her style and presentation puts
justine to shame. all in all, though, most of the shows are
    excellent!

  26. Ian is great! Added by: Ken (USA) (klisk@appstate.campus.mci.net)
[Timestamp: Mon 18 Jan, 14:00 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Ian is a great host. He`s so funny and I really enjoy his
shows. I believe he will eat anything offered him by his
hosts. Does anyone know any personal bio on him? How
did he get this great job? Any info or sites would be
appreciated. Keep up the good work Lonely Planet!
    Ken

  27. Ian! Added by: Kate (Scotland@abilene.com)
[Timestamp: Tue 19 Jan, 9:23 Tasmanian Standard Time]

It has to be Ian! I've travelled a bit too and like to
compare his experiences with mine...of course being male his
are a bit different. I had to laugh at the time he was
eating marmot in Mongolia ....30 mins and he was still
chewing! He seems such a good sport about things and willing
    to try anything.
Keep up the good work, Ian!

  28. Ratings Added by: Frank (fls@san.rr.com)
[Timestamp: Tue 19 Jan, 16:32 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I think Ian is best for a comedic attitude and a
lighthearted way of looking at the cultures he visits.
I think Justine is quite sincere in her interest, but acts
    a bit corny sometimes.
I think Shilpa is the most attractive one of them all, and
has a good all-around attitude, a mix of Ian's comedy and
    Justine's concern.
I think they ALL need to respect the cultures a bit more,
and quit laughing and making faces when they taste foreign
foods and witness foreign rituals and ceremonies. I am
sure the hosts think them quite disrespectful.
    Francesco

  29. IAN Added by: Xopi
[Timestamp: Wed 20 Jan, 6:11 Tasmanian Standard Time]

IAN is the end-all, be-all and (something else) of all
travel hosts. He is the best. I have seen all 52 episodes
of Lonely Planet and have enjoyed all of them. Except... I
cannot stand that Shapiro. I don't like Justine at all.
She stunk up the show in SW USA, and Paris City Guide was
just her and her chic friends. She got a little funky in
Turkey, and was disrespectful in Israel.
However, Ian eats sheeps eyes in Kyrgystan just to be
polite, embarassed himself skiing in Japan and Iran, got
down with the locals in the Solomon Islands, Ethiopia,
Iceland, and Corsica, and inspired my backpacking trip to
    Alaska. He rocks.
    Honourable mention goes to Neil.
Who was that nutcase that walked for two weeks in Spain?
The one that went to Phillipines is just a bit staged I
think, and the new guy that went to London and Papua New
Guinea is a little off... but then again he's Aussie.

  30. One more thing... Added by: Xopi
[Timestamp: Wed 20 Jan, 6:13 Tasmanian Standard Time]

That girl that went Trekking in Uganda and Zaire... hiking

Lonely Planet/Pilot Productions: GET HER BACK! She was
great! Better looking than Shilpa too.

  34. IAN & JUSTINE= GREAT! Added by: MATT (maddern@one.net.au)
[Timestamp: Fri 29 Jan, 12:29 Tasmanian Standard Time]

How can you go wrong with these 2? Ian is a great, funny
guy who can make a seemingly boring situation interesting
and very entertaining while on the other hand, Justine is
comes across as the sweetest girl who'll always make the
journey fun and insipire you to travel their not to mention
    how beautiful she is.
I'm not soo sure about the other two though, Neil and
Shilpa who I'm sure are nice people, they don't have that
lure that Ian and Justine do.

  35. Ian all the way! Added by: Bronwen (neigh_@yahoo.com)
[Timestamp: Fri 29 Jan, 12:37 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Im gonna say Ian is my fav just because he is so hilarious
and fun. He has a lot of guts eating that sheeps eyeball in
Hungary, ugh. Also he can sure drink, just about every
episode, i think, he has gotten drunk or almost there. But
even though its funny, I dont really care for it because
unless i feel safe in a country and have made good friends
with other travellers i would never get drunk, i would
drink a little, but i would control myself.
Justine is cool too, she seems like a good traveller but her
biggest flaw i would have to say is flirting with the guys
she meets, i cant remember the exact countrys(sorry) but in
China there was i guy and also somewhere in the middle east,
man she was all over them. Fortunately she has the cameraman
who i bet is super butch.
And someone earlier on mentioned Canada, yeah, why is it
that LP hasnt come here? I know your not afraid of the cold!
Canada is very multiculteraled and you can find just about
everything here too! Deserts, mountains, beautiful beaches,
huge glaciers, trees and more trees, and big big citys too
like Toronto and Vancouver which are beautiful citys.
Also I would like to see a show in Australia, im going there
on exchange in a year or 2 and i think LP could teach me a
    lot.
Thanks for reading this i know its long!
    :)

  37. Gotta go with Ian... Added by: Mags
[Timestamp: Fri 29 Jan, 13:04 Tasmanian Standard Time]

...funny, entertaining, always willing to try something
new. But, some of the things he eats are gross - did anyone
see the one where he ate grubs (or worms or something like
that) in Zimbabwe? They were covered in a peanut sauce, but
    still...made me want to puke.
    ~
Also, I refuse to watch the Japan episode because I heard
that Ian eats a live fish. Yes, the fish is actually alive
and it "watching" itself be eaten (this is apparently some
kind of delicacy in Japan). That is sick and very cruel.

  38. The hosts with the most Added by: Joe (fortunate1@mindspring.com)
[Timestamp: Fri 29 Jan, 13:17 Tasmanian Standard Time]

It's fantastic to see so many avid LP watchers. I'll admit
that I've found myself watching the 3, 8 and 11 pm airings
of the same show just to quench my travel thirst. I'll be
kicking off my adventure in just a few months and would be
ecstatic to run across any of the LP hosts. Certainly they
are all very different and after several healthy doses of
Ian, it was a little offsetting to make the change to
Justine's heavier style, but nevertheless her genuine
appreciation (even with a little American attitude) of our
world has won me over. Ian certainly has a gift - as life
channels through him, it gets chewed up an spewed out has
shiney happy ian juice, and there's no way to compete with
that unique spark, but Justine has more than her fair share
of interesting and joyful insights. As it stands now, I
wouldn't want to think of watching Lonely Planet with just
one chosen host. The variety is an asset in itself that adds
more to the show than any one host could if chosen over
another. I think one important cog in the lonely planet
machine that should not be overlooked is executive producer
Ian Cross. I was extremely impressed by him during his
Travel Daily appearance. He had such a peace about him - it
moved me to think that after many years of traveling, I
might be in the same place - and I can see his influence
    throughout the show.
To finish on a completely shallow note, I think Nikki Grosse
may be the cutest girl I've ever seen...more of her please
    LP!!

  44. Realistic Added by: Scooter
[Timestamp: Fri 29 Jan, 14:32 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Justine, although sometimes almost moody and prodding - or
even blase about things - probably reflects what we all are
like when we're actually on the road - admit it, none of
our trips are really like Ian's - he does "it all", but we
often have to compromise and travel more like Justine, with
her general stance toward things reflecting that. Ian
seems to have more fun and has hilarious expressions, but
Justine's life on the road probably mirrors the typical
backpackers more closely. Shilpa has an awesome body
(chest), and I found myself drooling all over the TV screen
during the Spain episode - in it there are parts when she
gets hard nipples and I just could... not... get...
    enough...!!!

I would for have to say Ian....he is sooo outrageously cute & funny. Re: Canada, I'm from Vancouver and I too believe that the world is missing out on Canada's natural beauty...we have sooo much to offer. Another country that I would love to see a show on would have to be Guyana in South America. My father is from there and I would love to see where he was born & raised. Guyana is still not a touristy country but I'm told it has loads to offer for eco-travellers.

Ian's humor beats 'em all. He's too funny! and he has guts
eating those sheep eyes and all other gross things. Just
you wait till the Finland episode airs, you'll all start
swarming to Finland! Hope he tries mΣmmi, it's a GROSS-

Ian is the best. He is entertaining without being
excessively crude. He's just a nice guy - excellent sense of
humor. The word for the show is - fun! (and a little
bizarre!). What will this guy NOT eat!? My wife and I
thoroughly enjoy the show! Justine? - well- she's ok- a
    little more blase, tho'.

  59. Ian is all Wright Added by: JOHN O' MALLEY
[Timestamp: Fri 29 Jan, 23:06 Tasmanian Standard Time]

WELL, all I can say is that Ian Wright is definitely the
best L.P presenter. It doesn't matter what the programme is
about as he really makes it funny and very entertaining. May
I say that I apologise for those hurtful remarks said about
Ian by Fergal O'scanlan as not all the Irish are so rude. My
wife is Polish and she understands the man perfectly. I
suppose Fergal may not be the sharpest tool in the box. Do
    you agree, fellow readers?.

  60. PL=Ian Added by: miette (miette@chania.hellasnet.gr)
[Timestamp: Fri 29 Jan, 23:29 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Ian ia the coolest. We crack up laughing with his expressions and typical British humor. He makes the show.
Justine tends to be a bit blase about certain things, but she is realistic. Travelling as a woman takes complete different dimensions in certain areas. Sometimes I watch Ian in full action, and there is no way that me - a woman - could do what he does, mix with the locals the way he does.
Anyway, if any of them ever comes to Crete, please give us a call....

  63. Definitely Ian! Added by: Alice
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 0:46 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I think Ian is a very entaining and respectful person as
LP's presenter, I enjoy his show very much, not only it is
very amusing but also he blend with the local people so
well that, I sometimes forgot he is actually british
national. I have spent three years in Britain, my opinion
about the english is they are rigid, up-tight and reserved
(not being stereotypical here, :) some of my good friends
are english.) But I may have to rethink about that, after
what I have seen on LP with Ian having sheep's eye, reindeer
meat, etc. not to mention his hilarious and friendly
presentation, this just makes me want to pack and get on the
    plane right away!

  64. Ian is phat! Added by: phat! (phat!@Brown.edu)
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 1:11 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Ian's da man! He was especially cool in Norway, Thailand,
and Syria. I watched the show in Greece, but can anyone
PLEASE tell me what times and on what channel I can watch it
in the States? I go to school in New England (yech!) and I
would be eternally grateful if someone knows what times and
on what channels it is aired on? Also, does anyone know if
there are places that rent out the LP videos?

[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 3:19 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Anyone know any background info on Shilpa? Is she in any
    other episodes besides Spain?
Ian is funny, but Justine sure has style. Is anyone on the
show under 27? Is this all they do all day? What a great
    job!

  69. Definitely NOT Ian Added by: Bob
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 3:28 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Twying to watch Ian babble fwwooo his diawogue is wike
wistening to Elmer Fudd with a crappy Cockney accent. If it
weren't for the all-too-cutsie Ian, Wonewey Pwanet might be
interesting. Send the wanker back to Earl's Court!
Otherwise, there's loads of other Travel Channel choices!

  70. Ian, Cheeky Monkey Man Added by: Don Migdal (dmigdal@ismi.net)
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 3:55 Tasmanian Standard Time]

When you travel or watch a travel show, you want to feel
comfortable with the person. I could easily see myself
hangin' out with Ian at the local pub or traveling through
the Outback. The guy seems so personable and likeable, and
goes for the laugh factor in various situations....That
counts a lot! He has my vote.

  71. Geepers! Ian rocks! Added by: Jules (jsparkin@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 3:57 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Those of you that think Ian can't speak properly have
obviously never visited certain parts of England! His
accent just adds to his charm...can you imagine Ian without
the accent doing what he does? It would totally change the
    delivery!
Again, I agree with the other Canadians...come visit the
Great White North LP! So many tour groups troop through
Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise etc...why not Ian?!
Justine, she's alright but not nearly as entertaining. I
have to admit I was a bit put off with her attitude in some
of the places she has visited..ie. turning up her nose at
types of accomadation. Give me Ian anyday!
How did these lucky blighters get their jobs anyways?

    shows on Africa???

  73. JUSTINE ROCKS Added by: MIKE
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 4:58 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I ENJOY BOTH HOSTS IAN AND JUSTINE. IAN HAS A UNIQUE SENSE
OF HUMOR. BUT JUSTINE GIVES YOU A WOMANS PERSPECTIVE ON
TRAVELLING BY HERSELF. MORE IMPORTANTLY HOW DO YOU GET A
JOB ON THE T.V. SERIES LONELY PLANET. IAN & JUSTINE KEEP UP
    THE GOOD WORK.
IWOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION ON AFRICA. CAPE TOWN FOR
INSTANCE ALSO THE MORE SCENIC AREAS. I EITHER SAW IAN OR

This question has been asked a few times thus far, but I
will raise it again... HOW CAN YOU SEE THE SHOW IN THE
STATES??? I've heard that it is on the Travel Channel but
I've never heard of a cable company carrying that channel.
Would love to rent these tapes to see what you're all
talking about... Is there a branch on this website about
the show? Someone please let us know!!!!! I'm in
Portland, OR and want LP now!

  76. Lonely Planet Hosts Added by: Cat
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 6:20 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I have been watching Lonely Planet for a couple of years
now and Ian Wright does make a boring scenario more
tolerable because he becomes funny and naughty! Justine
Shapiro is just as funny in her detached, dry humor way.
Both are enjoyable hosts and introduce some of the
strangest things to the tv audience. Together they make
Lonely Planet a very interesting travel show. Please keep
using both of them as travel reporters.
May I suggest something though? How about more shows
focusing on modern urban cities like Sydney, Los Angeles,
Tokyo, Moscow etc. Lonely Planet tends to jump around too
much and cover too much geographic area in one episode. How
about one episode devoted to one city?

  77. Typical American Added by: Eileen
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 6:35 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Having traveled quite a bit and seen many Western Europeans
in action, I must say, when people remark that they dislike
Justine because she is rude in a "typically american"
way...well, I have to laugh. Having been witness to, oh,
say, Germans, Aussies of the western eurpoean lineage, not
native), and Spaniards out in the world, I can say quite
honestly that Americans have no corner on the market for
rudness. Perhaps my most stomach turning example of
rudeness however was a plane load of Brits on a flight to
the US. They were loud, spat at people, made crude jokes of
women's breasts, rated who they wanted to fuck of the women
who passed on the way to the bathroom... well, it goes on
and on. I am thinking any rude americans out there probably
have not fallen far from the 'tree' of Great Britain. It's
an island of imbecile fuck ups, if one were to judge by the
    men on this plane.
As for Justine, perhaps it is her intelligence that puts off
    some of the men! LOL!

think),sometimes he can be rude to the yocals though!I'm
surprized he hasn't gotten hit yet.But he is my fav-the rest
seem shallow and like they would rather be anywhere else but

  81. until soweto... Added by: matt
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 9:21 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Two things... First, the Paris show: I - perhaps I should
be crediting the director, but I won't, so fuck it - think
Justine gets a big woo-hoo! for pulling off a great,
unified - positively expository - piece of television.
Second, Justine meeting her nanny. Tears flowed. I curled
    up in ball and wept.
I wasn't sure about her at first either.
    She's grown on me.

  83. best presenter Added by: joe (JYelland@cableinet.co.uk)
[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 9:49 Tasmanian Standard Time]

There's no doubt - Ian gets the vote. The Lonely Planets on
UK Channel 4, Fearghal (top of page), are severely cut down
to 24 minutes. On Discovery they're 52 minutes each and we
get to appreciate the real Wright sense of humour.
By the way, I read Ian is an art teacher in an East End of
London Youth Centre. The Sunday Times published a superb
painting of Chris Evans a few months ago by someone called
Ian Wright. Anyone know if it's the same person? My wife is
an art teacher and thinks he's gorgeous with a personality
    to match.
More series, please Ian, and ask Channel 4 to do them
    justice.

[Timestamp: Sat 30 Jan, 11:53 Tasmanian Standard Time]

all you have to see is the NYC episode, and there's no
competition. he handles the rudest of all americans (new
YORKERS!) with ease and charm. i never even imagined his
accent as hard to understand and i'm *GASP* american!! and
i think that he's just adorable.
one comment -- i think it was by miette -- troubled me. she
said that a woman could never mix with the locals in the
way that Ian does. i think that there could be a woman host
of LP that's just as funny or interesting or adventurous as
Ian (sorry Justine, but no) its just that they haven't
    found one yet.
oh, and LP -- all females on the page will be happy to
    apply. :)

  86. Ian is the man!!! Added by: Nicolas&Jess (Nicolasmeyer@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Tue 9 Feb, 17:57 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Hey, we're living in Vancouver/Canada, are a well traveled
couple and have our origins in Taiwan, Singapore, Iran and
Germany, Switzerland and now Canada. Every night we watch
and our favorite is Ian. Simply because he has the perfect
balance of humor, respect and natrual coolness to explore
other cultures in an entertaining funny way without
tramping over peoples feelings and roots. Justine is rude.
Yes, but we don't think that her respectles behavior is
nesseseraly conected to her being from the US. We just
think she akts like an elephant in a porcelan shop or her
way of comenting on other peoples traditions and lifes fits
like a fist onto the eye. There are two ways of being
funny. Ian makes himself the "laughingstock". Justine seems
only to be able to be funny at the expense of others and it
    still is not funny!
And last but not least all the people that coment on Ians
way of talking: We love it!
Can you gues who our favorite host is??

  87. My favorite show.... Added by: Miselka (mh16@hotmail.com)
[Timestamp: Thu 11 Feb, 8:07 Tasmanian Standard Time]

    Hi!
I am a Canadian, and so far I haven't traveled very much
because I am still in school. (i've been to Florida USA,
Mexico, Germany, France, Austria, Czech Republic,
Switzerland, Slovakia, Holland). I think this show is
really unique because it shows you what life is really like
instead of being in some 4-star hotel. The show also shows
you where would be cool to go and where it is gross without
even going there! Ian is the best host because he is so
outgoing and funny. I guess I've been watching the show
about a month, and I am addicted!!! Keep up the wonderful
    work!
    Luv
    Miselka!

[Timestamp: Sat 20 Feb, 14:14 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I enjoy all the hosts on Lonely Planet, but if I had to pick
one to be my tour guide in my travels, I would have a hard
time choosing between Shilpa Mehta and Nikki Grosse. Aside
from their obvious beauty, they both exude loads of charm.
It's too bad they weren't featured in more episodes.
    Cheers,

  89. Shilpa in Philpa Added by: Scooter
[Timestamp: Fri 26 Feb, 15:40 Tasmanian Standard Time]

Shilpa's outfits in the Philippines were out of sight.
Incredible body... but she wore tube tops all over,
including in Davao (Mindanao), where Islam is the rule and
it probably didn't go over so well. There are times when
you know she is bra-less, and I wondered if the reason why
was to get hard-ups like me to watch (...worked...). The
show has a PG rating here in the US - by the way, it's on
the TravelChannel (cable channel) at 8pm and 11pm (same
episode) daily on Time Warner Cablevision and others. If
you're reading, Shilpa, I would like to marry you and take
you away to never-never land, or El Nido, whichever is
closer. Please marry me. I will take care of you forever
    and never leave you. Love.

  90. to all those Canadians Added by: Mugs (megan@magma.ca)
[Timestamp: Sun 28 Feb, 10:16 Tasmanian Standard Time]

The reason they haven't done a Canadian show is simple:
Pilot Productions bases each episode on one guide book.
There is only one guide book for all of Canada and it would
be near impossible to see the whole country in an hour.
Plus, imagine the cost! The vast distances would most
likely have to be covered by plane or train which would make
    it a little pricey.
If you want a Canadian episode, you'll have to wait for more
    Canadian guide books.
Oh..and I've already said it, but Ian and Neil are the Kings
    of Lonely Planet.

[Timestamp: Fri 12 March, 3:29 Tasmanian Standard Time]

The Travel Channel is now owned by Discovery Networks,

    Buy the dish, it rules.
BTW, Ian. And I wish he were gay, cause he's really cute,
but contrary to the previous poster I unfortunately don't
    think he "acts that way."

Shilpa's a babe. Unfortunately it's difficult to concentrate

courageous and beautiful girl with an amazing personality
but the entire documentary has somehow made me think of the
possibility of doing the same trip. If there's any other
episodes of Nikki, please let me know :o)

    Talofa!
Ian is my favorite. He's cool and respectfull of the
different cultures and really knows how to make his time
there lots of fun. He would definitely be a fun travelling
    companion.
I do hope they bring Nikki back for some more episodes.
She's very attractive and her first show trekking in Zaire
showed she was athletic too...a nice combination. Hope the
show continues and eventually they reach deeper into the
    South Pacific and Polynesia.
    Soifua!

They are the best hostos. Lp is a very good tv program, but
here, in Rio, repeats too much, and it's terribla. I don't
if The Brazil's Travel Channel has or not the new episodes,
but I'd like to. Ian I can help you in Rio a lot, teaching
phrases and words, presenting ya with a dinner or lunch and
    much more. E-MAIL ME.

  110. Nobody like Ian Added by: gabriela (gabydiaz79@hotmail.com)

Ian is the best host no because he is cute, also for the
way that he conduce the show. I agreed with the people who
said that the show isn`t the same without Ian and he is so
funy that became the reason why i started to whatch the
show everyday. I want to meet him and talk about all his
experiences, he`s such a interesting guy!!!. He`s able to
do everything, he take risks and i love him for that.
Jistine is cool, she`s not like Ian but she`s my example to
follow like a host, because she don`t have to do everything
just for the fact that she`s a woman and when i`ll do the
show, i can be like her and no so crazy like Ian.
