My wife and I are planning a 4 day trip to Hongkong...Can
someone be kind enough to suggest a reasonably priced
Hotel in Kowloon area( Walking distance to Shopping and
Food). Also, How central is the Kowloon Panda Hotel?? I
also need some help on Sightseeing. Which tours are worth
taking, how much would they cost and who are the tour
operators ( Coach tours). Would love to hear from you at
the earliest. Many thanks for your time.

Hello:
I am living in Hong Kong so may be I am the right person to
answer your questions.
The Panda Hotel is located in Tseun Wan which is basically
an old , densely populated city with above average air
pollution (But not so terrible, just relax)It is actually
not so cheap as you imagine. It takes about 25
minutes to take the underground railway train to Tsim Sha
Tseu (The major shopping centre.Personally I think the Park
hotel in Tsim Sha Tseu is a better bargain. It is located at
the actual city centre and is cheaper than Panda Hotel.
Although it looks a bit groomy from the outside, but it is
still properly managed and maintained. Of course, the actual
price for the hotel really depends on season and luck.
I can't recommend a travel agent for you as I think it is
pointless to do so unless you are in a great hurry.
Regards
kevin
I also live in Hong Kong. Heaps of hotels have got deals
going at the moment because of the slump in the economy so
you may be able to stay in one of the better hotels in TST
for a resonable price. I'd recommend the Holiday Inn Golden
Sands and The Hong Kong Hotel. These places aren't cheap if
you book through the hotel, but give travel agents a go.
They are also smack bam in the middle of town. Close to
shops and restaurants.
As far as tours are concerned - don't bother. Do it
yourself. Hong Kong is small. The transport is excellent.
And most people speak English and will be happy to help
(most of the time) when you get lost.
Go to the Peak (by the Peak tram).
Go to Lamma (by Junk) and have a seafood dinner.
Go to Stanley market, Temple street (in Jordan) and the
Ladies market (in Mong Kok).
Go and see the Big Budha on Lantau.
Go out at night in Lan Kwai Fung and Wan Chai.
Go to Kublai's for dinner.

Panda Hotel is not close to major attractions at all.
You should find hotels close to Tsim Sha Tsui.
These are good links with hotels with maps start from US$40:

You can easily get around HK with MTR(subway) & bus.
Make sure you get the free color-coded maps from the HKTA.
Try this interactive guide by MTR:

I also live in Hong Kong and I agree that it is easy to see
the place without going on tours; however, if you have a
very short amount of time it can be a good idea. When my
parents were here they researched tours. Both the Hong Kong
Tourist Association and Grey Line Tours operate many tours,
from half day to full day and even some Watertours. My
parents went on a tour of Kowloon and the New Territories.
It cost them about $450 Hong Kong Dollars including a full
lunch at Shatin Racetrack. It left about 8am and came back
around 3pm. They really enjoyed it but it can get pricey.
