hi,
A friend and I will leave in july from belgium by car to
reach china(turkey,iran,pakistan,china).
I already asked a permission to get into china and tibet
with my own car at the chinese tourist office in paris.
I didn┤t even got an answer.
Does someone know how to obtain such permissions and has
someone travelled before in china with his own car?
thanks for replying

The Chinese are shitty enough about letting anyone drive a
hire car in China. I don't fancy your chances of being let
in, especially into an area perceived as sensitive as the
    Karakorum highway. Sorry mate!

A couple of years ago I met a German couple who were
waiting with their 4WD at the Khunjerab pass for their
Chinese guide to turn up. There was also an article in the
German travel magazine TOURS a few years ago which
explained how to do it. Check with WEGWIJZER in Bruges (if
you're living in Belgium)to get a copy of the article.
It's very expensive though to organize !
