I did it the other way (albeit 2 years ago). It took one
full day Kashgar-Naryn.
Unless you intend to camp out somewhere on the Kygyz side
(very beautiful) there is nowhere really to stay between the
2 towns.
I am also planning to cross the Torugart pass from
Kygyzstan to China. You will see my post towards the
bottom of this section. (May 6 or 7 I think) I don't seem
to be able to get any up to date information on crossing in
the Kyrgyz/China direction. I will be in Uzbekistan in
July and will go on to Kygyzstan and China afterwards. One
agent in Kashgar quoted me $240 to meet me at the Chinese
side. Pretty absurd. I will try using public transport if
possible, otherwise making private arrangements and
probably with no-one meeting me in China. I guess that
there is a risk of being sent back but I can't see any
alternative. When are you going?
Hi!
I was in summer in Bishkek (Frunze). It was no possible to
cross the pass without a permission. The cheapest offer to
catch us at the chinese border was $ 400,--.
So we dicided to go through Kazachstan (24 h) by bus to
Urumqui (china)and about 40 h by bus to Kashgar.
It is not easy but I think it is a worth trip.
A question for you? I am interesting to go this summer again
to Uzbekistan, Kazachstan, Kyrgistan, Pakistan and China.
Could you send me the latest currency rates (black market)
per Mail, if you are in these countries. It would be very
kind of you.
We are going on a sudden trip to Bishkek on 6th June. Although it is an official trip, and so we should be well looked after, does anyone have any information that would be useful to know beforehand? Like a general feeling for the level of comfort and the essential items to bring. Last "difficult" trip was to Russia about 5 years ago, and I need a refresher course on how to survive outside Western Europe.
