HEY EVERYONE, my girlfriend and i are planning a trip late 08/99 or 02/00. looking for someplace tropical/caribbean with great beach, natural beauty, delicious food, and STRONG drinks! i want to swim, fish, relax, watersports, horseback, etc. She wants tan. Someplace with both privacy and lots of action, depending on what we feel like, but NO HOTELS!!! a villa overlooking the ocean and a long deserted beach would be perfect. are we asking too much? also want to rent a jeep/moped/bike to see the REAL culture. any ideas? our budget is around US100 per day, each, before flight from toronto. we were thinking of CUBA--more specifically CAYO COCO or CAYO GUILLERMO. if you have been, we;d love to hear from you. any must sees/must dos? got any contacts? any other ideas? Thanks!

Isn't Cayo Coco just a HUGE hotel island?

Think you got that confused with Veradero, nevertheless, for cubans it might as well be an island. Both are resorts exclusively catering to tourist on package(except those the Party wants to reward for extraordinary work, then is a wkend in the beach.) I've been to both, but if you don't want tourism in a can you might want to consider a bungalo in Cienfuego, Trinidad, a MUST SEE on the par of Havana, is only a hop/skip away with car while you still have a beautiful beach nearby. If I must choose betw Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo then it's Cayo Coco hands down. I have contacts there.
Let me know how things are when you get back.
