So what's the latest first-hand info on street crime and
safety in Cuba (especially Havana)?

    Us both having just come back from Cuba including
    time in Havana I can tell you from first hand experience
    that Cuba in general is a safe country with warm, friendly
    people. Your biggest problem will likely be all the
    vendors (and jineterros) bothering you for money, etc.
    Brush up and your Spanish (numbers come in very handy)!

    The place is very safe. The market in Havana, has many
    people asking you for money. Young girls come up to you and
    ask for a T-shirt you might have purchased minutes earlier.
    Just keep walking and say no thanks in spani

    Since January 4 th 1999,you will find Habana very safe and
    may not believe it even ounce there.
    It was safer before than most North American cities.
    Jineteras and hustlers are now being hunted.
