Boat from Cuba to Puerto Rico?

In July I'll have to go from Cuba to Puerto Rico. Prices for
flights are incredibly high, due to a change in Panama (over
US$600 one way!). Is there any other way I could make this
trip, e.g. by boat? I would be rather flexible with the
date of travel..
Any other (related) suggestions (cheap accomodation, must
sees, etc.) are very welcome as well!

When I lived in PR a ferry service from Santo Domingo to
Mayagⁿez had started to run. I think its $90 one way. I
hear its a bit dodgy, though. You could go Habana or
Santiago to Santo Domingo, then the ferry. Contact the PR
Tourist Board for more info on the ferry.
    Suerte,

There is, apparently, regular ferry service from Santiago de
Cuba to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Connect there to your final
destination. Let me know if that works OK. Haven't tried it
    yet mysel
