Hi. Has anyone had success calling Cuba from the US
lately? I haven't been able to get through since the
connections were cut, but I understand there are ways to
circumvent the American lines. If anyone knows how to do
this, I'd be grateful for your input. Thanks.

I have had a great deal of difficulty calling Cuba when
attempting to do so with MCI. I can seldom make connection
with this company.
I have had better success calling with ATT, but it usually
takes several attempts before making connection. I have
called the MCI operators, but they are unable to help make a
connection.
I have found it very difficult for the past month to call
Cuba, and I don't know how to circumvent the American lines.
If someone does know, they would make a lot of friends if
they would post that information here on the Thorntree.
According to my sources, the only companies that Cuba did
not cutoff are Sprint and Puerto-Rico based TLDI.
Apparently, these companies made their payments before they
received the writs of garnishment filed by the families'
lawyers. However, they may have been cutoff at a later
point. But when the lines were intially cut, Sprint and
TLDI were still connected. Buean Suerte!
Can only tell you that whenin Cuba I was told that my phone
call to Canada would be routed thru Italy.
I am from the states and I am using Mci as my long distance
carrier. I have dailed other long distace carriers and got
the same results. No connection with direct or operator
assisted direct calls. What I have done, and you might try
different carriers if yours dose not work, is to dail a
long distance operator. Dail 00. Ask for the international
operator in Cuba and they will connect your call as long as
there is no problems with the Cuban Phone system at that
time. I do not know what this cost as I have not seen my
bill.
