We are wanting to go to Cuba for either 10 days or 2 weeks
the prices in the local travel agents seem a bit steep .
Are there any travel agents that specialise in Cuba based
in England . Also is it worth trying to go flight only?
Do you still need booked accomadation details to go f/o.
Does anyone know the best place to head for ? How long do
we stay in Havana etc. What's the average cost of daily
spending? taxis, cafes, bars etc. Any info will be greatly
accepted , I will check postings daily...
Thanks Paul & Rick..

i haven't been to cuba all that recently, and the 3 times i have visited involved package tours rather than just the airfare. still, this might be helpful.
this time of year prices for transatlantic charters are at their lowest, and quite likely you can get a flight to toronto, add on a cuba flight or package from here and still be ahead of what you're being quoted in britain. canadian travel agencies/tour companies with internet sites include signature.ca and sunholidays.ca (the latter takes online bookings, but is relatively new and has some annoyances like making you 'try another date' up to 7 times in order to find just when the once weekly flight to a certain destination leaves!).
p.s... i don't have a commercial interest in any of this; sharing knowledge with travellers is rewarding in itself. if you're having difficulty finding info i may be able to some research at this end.

Try calling Travelcoast, also trading as Captivating Cuba
    Tel: 0181-891-2222
They can arrange flights to Havana with
Cubana, British Airways, Air France & Iberia.
You can choose - flight only or package. They have a wide
selection of hotels in Havana and lots of resorts.
Good Travel Agent, very flexible & helpful. I've used them
    twice.

I've also saw last week a UNIJET advert offering flight
only Gatwick to Varadero non-stop from ú299! Worth a call!
I'm going on a package with them in June.

Another one you can try is The Holiday Place, also trading
as The Cuban Experience. Used them in '96. I know they fly
with Cubana but don't know about other airlines.

I've just returned from Cuba and definitely recommend the
flight only option. The flight was with Iberia and cost
about ú400. This gives you much more freedom to plan your
own itinary and the chance to meet many more Cubans than
you would if you travelled on a tour package. As for the pre-
arranged booking that can be done by phoning any hotel in
Havana. They will then fax a booking confirmation. Try the
Hotel Riviera on the Malecon, there is no obligation to
stay there as no money has exchanged hands. To see what
Havana really has to offer you should spend 4-5 days there.
There is so much to see!

I've found these people to be very reasonably priced (went
to Cuba last year and am going again for Xmas/New Year).
Captivating Cuba, Travelcoast Ltd, Tel 0181 891 2222
The cheapest way would be to book just the flight plus 3
nights in a hotel with them (they did sell me just the
flight once, Cubana flight, much cheaper than the normal
Cubana rates) they have a policy of selling the hotel rooms
as well, but that's not bad either, means you don't have to
start hunting for a place to stay the moment you land.
I've heard that officially you don't need to book
accomodation in advance any more, but if you've got at
least those 3 nights booked, it saves you the hassle of
trying to convince a border official who is trying to make
your life difficult! Probably best to check with the Cuban
Embassy even, as attitudes towards tourists change
    constantly!
But Cuba is a grrrrreat place, make sure you get out of
Havana and into the real country!
