Hi Gang,
I'm coming over to Aus on a 1Y WH visa. I'll be there in
about 2 weeks. What are the diving conditions in and around
the reef like at the moment. I would absolutely love to go
diving there but have never dived before. I want it be
something I will remember. Am I better to put it off until
the Aus spring time. Any suggestions for best dive spots
and best time of year to try ? Thanks
Robbie

No matter what time of the yr, there's always
somewhere/someone who will be doing likewise. If u can
handle the temp(can get to 6-7degrees centigrade), there are
heaps of dive shops what'll take u out. Try DIVERSITY in
GORDON (Sydney, North Shore) as they are a great bunch of
guys & really helpful to boot!!!

Not sure where you are from but if you are from the UK then
a good way to dive the reef is to do a resort dive.
Basically you go out to look at one of the Reefs and they
give you a quick crash course and off you go. It sounds
dodgy but it isn't as you are with an instructor the whole
time and you don't go below 10 Meters. I decided to do it
this way as an Open Water certificate is all well and good
for a feww hundered dollars but when would I ever use it
    again?
We went from Cairns with a company called REEF MAGIC They
are professional and looked afer us really well. You can
even buy a video of your dive and take it back which we did
and we haven't got bored of looking at it yet. The trip
was $89 with one free dive and a second was $25 (AUS$) It
    was just what I wanted.
