I've just got back from Egypt and the only way to get to
Abu Simbal seems to be by plane. It costs $90 US and there
are about 4 or so airlines making huge profits out of the
road being closed down there. But it does seem to be the
only way! They keep talking about the road opening back up
but I'd doubt it any time in the near future

Road's closed, but I've heard that if you can jump on a
local lorry (making sure that many local people on it) going
down there, you can probably bribe your way to Abu Simbel
and it'll be much less than the 90USD that you have to pay
    to fly...
    Good luck...
