Dear anyone.
How is it in Comeroon, nowdays. Traveling around going bit
north, walkeing around even at night, lonely, or just how
is it to spend some weeks there?

I was there about 12 months ago. In Douala you had to be
careful walking around at night - probably not recommended
on your own. Even had incidents in the daytime in some
parts. A woman with me had her watch snatched of her wrist
when we were travelling on motorbike taxis. Stay at the
Foyer de Marin. It is the best place in Douala if you can
get a room there. I met people who had travelled by
train. There was an incident of bag snatching from a local
woman by someone reaching in through the train window but
no other problem. We travelled to the north quite safely
but were in a group in our own vehicle. The towns like
Rumsiki, Garoua and Maroua seemed fine to walk about alone,
at least in the day time. It was very hot in the summer.
More than 47 degrees celcius in Waza Park! In some places
in the north we could not change US$. Be sure to take some
French francs.
I spent about a month in Cameroon a few years ago and found
the place to be quite OK. The advice above points out the
usual cautions - don't waer your jewels, carry you bags
etc. Take few valuables out in the open and do not flout
any form of wealth. I found the Cameroon people to be very
welcoming and there are some fab patisseries around the
place. Don't miss the ice cream shop in Douala - it makes a
nice change from the ordinary.
