heidi,
I'm afraid that I'm woefully busy these days, and I can't
really type away on what you should do in tunisia to enjoy
yourself. However, if you give me a bit more information, I
can help you with specifics. I lived in tunisia for two
years (94-96) as a Peace Corps volunteer. before and after
that, I have been visiting countries the LP way...about 55
of them. So when you have specific questions about tunisia,
I'll do my best to answer them. 14 days is a good amount
of time. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what folks
say, and chime in.

Just got back. A lot depends on your interest. LP has good
itineraries which visit the highlights. From a personal
viewpoint, the Bardo, Sousse, Sfax, the Roman ruins, the
desert ksours. It's an interesting country & an easy one
for travel. bob
14 days is more than enough. I've jJUST got back, and did
a big loop Tunis to Tunis via Tataouine (well recommended),
Matmata (not worth it unless you are a Star Wars fan), Douz
(half a day maximum) El Faouar (Great - right on the edge
of the proper desert), Tozeur (Loved it - a really
pleaseant town. loads to wander around and the best hotel I
stayed in out there - Residence Warda), Kairouan (only
worth it if you've not seen any other Islamic/North African
towns e.g Cairo, Aleppo, Damascus) and Tunis (pleasant
enough, but watch out for pickpockets on the Metro!).
Not a bad trip, but you've done anywhere like Syria, Egypt
or Morocco it will seem a bit tame. If you are going by
yourself, be prepared for EVERYONE you meet to want to talk
to you!
