Chris grew up in England and Australia. After completing a degree in English literature and Chinese he joined the Lonely Planet team to head our phrasebook series. He is currently based in Hong Kong as a freelance writer. His work has appeared in Tokyo Journal, The Asia Wall Street Journal, The Australian and various other magazines and newspapers. Chris is also the author of Lonely Planet's Tibet, Tokyo city guide and the Mandarin phrasebook; he has co-authored Lonely Planet guides to Japan, Malaysia, Cambodia and South-East Asia on a shoestring.
