This would include your computer's processor type (386, 486, Pentium, etc.) Your version numbers for Windows & DOS, the number of Megs of RAM installed, and if you are currently running a permanent swap file. Without some or all of this information, a technician may not have enough facts to help you effectively, thus increasing the length of your call while you go back and check for this information. You may reach Tech Support at (206) 679-4496 in the USA. (Outside the USA, refer to page 2 of your Logos User's Guide for your regional distributor.) WordPerfect for Windows 5.2-6.0 issues -------------------------------------- WordPerfect 5.2 and 6.0 currently do not accept the default Rich Text Format (.rtf) setting in Logos. In order to insert verses into these programs the option "Copy Only Plain Text into Clipboard" must be selected in Preferences. Also, WordPerfect 6.0 has problems displaying and printing Greek or Hebrew text with accent marks. This problem can be worked around by making all of the text bold. Version 6.0a of WordPerfect fixed most problems, except for insertion of Greek or Hebrew. These texts will insert in an English font, and must be changed back to the appropriate font by hand. Accent marks for Nestle-Aland and Scrivener's Greek texts ---------------------------------------------------------- Logos uses Windows Symbol font by default. This font does not contain any accent marks. In order to see the accent marks in the Nestle-Aland or the Textus Receptus - Scrivener's texts change Logos' "Greek Text" font to the supplied Greek TrueType font. To do this: 1. Go into Logos, and select "Edit" and "Preferences". 2. Select the "Greek Text" option in the Area Font: list box. 3. Click the "Change..." button on the left, and then select the Greek font from the list. 4. Select "OK". In order to use the Greek TrueType font for printing, select the "Printer" option and repeat steps 2 through 4. The Byzantine Majority and Stephen's Greek texts do not contain accent marks. Clarification of Copy Verses Dialog ----------------------------------- The manual incorrectly states that the current Bible verse and version will always be shown in these dialogs. By default, these dialogs will remember the last verse and version you entered into the dialog instead of the current verse & version being used in Logos. If you would like the dialogs to always use the current verse and version shown in Logos, un-check the Remember Last Verse in Copying Verses & DVI flag in the Preferences dialog box, under the Edit menu. You can change this flag as often as you like while using Logos and the change will take effect without having to re-start Logos. Dynamic Verse Insertion ----------------------- Since Logos DVI is designed for use with Windows 3.1, DVI assumes that you are using the Microsoft Windows Program Manager as your primary shell. If you are using Norton Desktop or PC Tools or another third party shell, you may experience stack overflows. If this occurs, turn OFF DVI for all programs leaving standard DVI active. If you are using Works for Windows, or WordPerfect for Windows, turn ON Copy only plain text to clipboard in Bible Verse Display & Text Formatting at the bottom of Preferences. Dynamic Data Exchange with Logos Bible Atlas -------------------------------------------- When you install your Logos Bible Atlas, the Atlas installer will make changes to your Logos.exe file. These are minor fixes and improvements that have been made since the original program was written. This will insure that you have the very latest improvements available. Because the installer makes these changes to an .exe file, you should disable any TSR virus protection programs which might interpret the act of modifying an .exe as the act of a virus or bug. The TSR could shut down the process, leaving you with a partially modified version of Logos.exe that might not run correctly. When the Atlas installer makes its modifications to the Logos.exe, you may notice slight differences in the program, such as in the Preferences dialog box, which will add options that relate to the Atlas. To be able to search the Logos Bible Atlas from within Logos Bible Software, configure your settings for the Atlas with c:\lba in the Application Path. For the Hypertexts in the Logos Bible Atlas to work smoothly, you must start the Atlas first, and then start Logos. Starting Logos first will work, but will require you to click on the right hand side of the hypertext references in the Atlas. Microsoft Word for Windows Macros --------------------------------- There are two macros supplied for use with Microsoft Word for Windows. One is called "logos.dot", and the other is called "logos1x.dot". The manual incorrectly states that the names for these macros are "logos1x.dot" and "logos2x.dot". "logos.dot" is for use with Word for Windows Version 2.0 and 6.0, and "logos1x.dot" is for use with Word for Windows Version 1.0. If you are using Word for Windows version 6.0, place the "logos.dot" in your \winword\startup directory. This will insure that the insert verses macro will be automatically loaded during the windows startup. Ami Pro Macro Limitation ------------------------ Due to a limitation in Ami Pro for Windows, the Insert Verses macro is unable to initially select the Bible version currently being used in Logos. This means that when the dialog is first opened, the first Bible version in the list is always selected, even though a different Bible version may be the current version within Logos itself. This doesn't affect the rest of the functionality of the Ami Pro Insert Verses dialog. Exporting Hebrew Text in a Plain Text Format -------------------------------------------- When exporting Hebrew text in the plain text format, you will be asked whether or not you want to export the text in a left-to- right order or in a right-to-left order. The left-to-right order is used when you want to export transliterated Hebrew, and the right-to-left order is used when you want to export Hebrew text that will correctly display the when the text is displayed in a Hebrew font. If you export text in right-to-left order, there will be no line breaks in it. Therefore, unless you are using a Hebrew word processor, the lines won't wrap correctly. For each verse that occupies more than one line, the 1st line of text will end up being the last line of text in that verse, and the last line of text will become the 1st line of text in the verse. In order for the text to be correctly formatted, you need to put in your own line breaks and rearrange the text manually. The steps for doing so are as follows: a) Export the text as plain text and right-to-left. b) Open the file into a word processor. c) Select all of the Hebrew text and apply the Hebrew font to it in the size you want. d) For each verse in the text which is not broken up according to your liking, do the following: - Go to the left side of the last line of the verse. - Place the insertion point there and press Enter. - Move that line to the top of the verse. - For each remaining line at the bottom of the verse, perform the same steps, placing each of the lines below the last one that was moved. Transferring Nave's References to Your Own Topical Index -------------------------------------------------------- Nave's Topical Bible is an optional add-on module to the basic Logos program. When viewing a Nave's Topical Bible topic, you may transfer some or all of the references in the topic to your own topical index. The manual does not describe how to transfer only some of the references. To transfer some of the references, select the ones to be transferred with the mouse, and then click on the Transfer button. To transfer all of the references, make sure that there is no selection in the Nave's Topic window by activating the Nave's window and then pressing the Esc key, and then click on the Transfer key. In both cases you will be asked to verify your selection. Display Problem with TrueType Hebrew ------------------------------------ There is a bug in Windows 3.1's TrueType Font Manager which causes the Hebrew text to be drawn too far to the right using certain display drivers. This is a Windows bug which can sometimes be eliminated by using a different display driver. Another alternative would be to purchase Adobe Type Manager (ATM) and use the ATM version of the Hebrew font instead of the TrueType version. The ATM version of the Hebrew font is supplied on the font disk which comes with the Hebrew add-on module. Changing the Hot Spot and Search Hit Colors ------------------------------------------- The hot spot color (used by the Strong's Lexicon and Nave's Topical Bible module to identify jumps and Bible references) defaults to the same green color used by WinHelp; the search hit color (used to identify the found word or phrase after a search) defaults to blue. You can change these colors by adding one of the following two lines to the [Preferences] section of the LOGOS.INI file in your Windows directory. (You can use Notepad or any other plain text editor to modify this file. If lines with the same names already appear in your LOGOS.INI file simply change the values on those lines instead of adding new lines.) HotSpotColor= SearchHitColor= The two color definition lines contain colors defined in terms of their red, green, and blue components by numbers ranging from 0 to 255. (On a standard VGA display running 16 colors only numeric differences of 128 are significant -- I.E. red values of 0 and 75 are considered the same, but 0 and 128 are different.) The default values Logos uses, and will use if you remove these two lines from your LOGOS.INI file, are: HotSpotColor=0 128 0 ; Half intensity green - and - SearchHitColor=0 0 255 ; Full intensity blue You can change these colors as often as you like, but Logos will only read them in once when it loads; you will have to restart Logos for any changes you've made to take effect. For help in finding the color you want to use, go to the Control Panel and select the Color icon. In the Color dialog select Color Palette and then press the Define Custom Colors button. You can use the color picker to find the R-G-B value for a color you choose here -- Logos will use the Solid color equivalent to display text in that color. Hit Close when you are finished playing with the color picker. Copy Only Plain Text into Clipboard ----------------------------------- Logos makes use of the Rich Text Format (RTF) to copy verses and other text to the clipboard with complete formatting information, including font information and bold and italic marking. RTF has some limitations, though, and some word processors don't implement it correctly. If you find that pasting formatted verses from Logos into your RTF aware word processor messes up your font-table (putting the verses in weird fonts) or your page margins, you may wish to check the Copy Only Plain Text into Clipboard flag in the Preferences dialog box, under the Edit menu. If you do then Logos will only place plain, unformatted text on the clipboard. When you paste plain text into your document none of the text's formatting characteristics will be carried over, but neither will your document formatting be changed.
