Host Proximity Service BOF (hops) Tuesday, April 8 at 1530-1730 ============================= DESCRIPTION: 1. Explore technical issues associated with the creation of an Internet-wide Host Proximity Service. 2. Determine what related efforts exist. 3. Gauge interest in participating in the work. 4. Possibly gauge concensus in creating a working group. This BOF is a bit preliminary, since the technical ideas are only sketched out at this point. I envision, assuming things go well at the BOF, that an internet-draft will be created between Memphis and Munich, and that this internet-draft will be the basis for a more "serious" BOF in Munich. It is more likely that the second BOF would make the decision about forming a working group. AGENDA: 1. Presentation and discussion of the problem and various existing approaches (Anycast, Service Location Protocol, web caching, etc.). Paul Francis. 2. Presentation of the proposed HOPS architecture (as outlined in a white paper that will be posted shortly and will be available with the announcement of the BOF). Paul Francis. 3. Discussion of pros and cons of proposed HOPS architecture. 4. Discussion of whether and how to proceed. Please see http://www.ingrid.org/hops/wp.html for a white paper on the HOPS architecture.
