The top part of the Display menu is used to adjust the background color and to load a background image.

The Selected menu is used to set options for the selected objects. Any changes in this menu will affect all the objects selected in the object browser.
The rest of the interface is active while the Selected menu is visible so often it is an advantage to keep floating on top of  the main menu while working.
To access the menu press the Selected button in the lower left corner of the main menu.

Shadow and Hilight

Use the color sliders to adjust the background color in the graphics area or check the Use Image button to use a background image, loaded from disk.
The Browser button brings up a file selector box, use this box to select the full path and filename of the background image.
To load an animated background (a series of numbered images), just select one of the images. The image names should be in standard Softimage format (name.frame_number.pic). FurDesigner searches for a new image every time the time slider is dragged.

 Set the visualization for the selected patches and NURBS.  

Always draw hairs

Check this button to force hair display in preview/render selected mode, even if the objects are not selected.
This is useful for reference styling objects. (The object is not changed by styling commands because it is not selected, but still the hairs are visible).
