The Question
(Submitted April 26, 1999)
Inside a nebula, how big are the immense balls of dust and gas before they
become stars?
The Answer
That is a very good question.
The "proplyds" or protoplanetary disks, as these systems are called,
seem to be a few (about 5-8) times larger than our solar system.
