Windows-based HTML Editors

Three editors are included on the HTML CD:

• HoTMetaL from SoftQuad: WYSIWYG standalone editor with verification. The free version is provided on the CD. A commercial version with additional features may be purchsed from SoftQuad.
• HTML Assistant by Howard Harawitz
• Internet Assistant from Microsoft: A Word add-on that turns Word into a browser and HTML editor.

We think that these three editors were among the best available at the time this book was written. However there are many other HTML editors available for Windows. If you do not find any of the editors we have provided on the CD to your liking, you can use the following list to obtain others.

Ant HTML

Standalone editor. Supports colors and texture, HTML 3.0, Netscape Extensions. Chinese version available. From Basic Concept Studio.

HTMLed

Standalone unchecked editor. Shareware. From I-Net Training & Consulting Ltd (inettc@nbnet.nb.ca)

HTML Author

Word 6.0 WYSIWYG template, supports Netscape backgrounds and HTML 3. Can generate hypertext Table of Contents, and provide author field. Free. By Dr Grahame S Cooper (G.S.Cooper@iti.salford.ac.uk).

HTML HyperEdit

Web Builder

WordPerfect Internet Publisher

Internet Publisher contains everything a WordPerfect 6.1 user needs to create HTML documents. Includes a WordPerfect 6.1 template, which guides a user through the process of creating an HTML document.
