MORE MONEY FOR ESSENTIAL WORK AS CHARITY SAVES 47% ON BILLS

An internationally renowned charity is saving 47% on the running costs of its heating system, leaving over 6000 to be spent on the children it helps.

The Foundation for Conductive Education, which exists to help children and adults with motor disorders assumed responsibility for a dilapidated 17th century mansion in 1990.   In 1995, it established the National Institute for Conductive Education (NICE).

The key objective following much fundraising was to refurbish the building in an appropriate way to reflect both its Grade 11 listed status and the needs of the children and adults who would be helped there.   One essential decision was the method of heating.  Given the nature of the work done at NICE, a gentle unseen heating system was the ideal choice as a traditional radiator based system was considered to be unsuitable both in terms of safety and aesthetics.

Speedheat were called in to provide an under carpet and under tile electronic system giving a primary heat source and the added bonus of making the floors warm to the touch. High ceilings made it necessary to gain maximum coverage of the floors while at the same time make it extremely controllable and cost effective.

Using the varying mat sizes that Speedheat produce and controlling each room separately with a wireless computerised thermostat achieved this goal. This allows total control of the heat availability with the added feature that the computer in the system thinks and switches the system on in good time to allow the rooms to come to temperature for when they are needed.
