FMB Master Builder of the Year Awards Scheme
The Master Builder of the Year was launched in 1998. Through this scheme, the Federation of Master Builders challenges the perception of the bad builder by calling on the industry's customers and professional advisers to highlight good workmanship, value for money and reliability.
Satisfied clients and their professional advisers are invited to single out builders who are considered to have undertaken outstanding work in new build and refurbishment. Each category is split into projects valued at less than and over 100,000, excluding VAT.
Quality of workmanship, completion on time and within budget, plus a willing attitude, all score highly with the award judges in selecting the winning firms.
The Federation of Master Builders is only too well aware that the image of the building industry amongst the general public is not what it might be and welcomed the Joseph Rowntree Foundation report that highlighted fears over costs and cowboy operators in the housing repairs sector. But the reality is that most builders are highly competent skilled craftsmen.
Construction activity is a major contributor to the British economy, with an output of over 50 billion a year, representing almost 8% of GDP. Undoubtedly the sector, which employs a million and half people, can deliver - this is the clear message that the FMB wants to communicate through the Master Builder of the Year scheme.
