The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) is the largest roofing trade association in the UK whose members include some 766 contractor companies branches an franchises and 120 manufacturers and service providers. Every contractor member is carefully vetted to ensure that they comply with the NFRCs Code of Practice, are suitable qualified to lay products to specification, have sound Health and Safety policies and are covered by third party and public liability insurance.

The NFRC was formed in 1943 when The London Association of Master Tylers amalgamated with the National Federation of Slate Merchant Tylers to form the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, due to the urgent need for a co-ordinated national effort to deal with war damaged buildings.

The federation is now made up of eight regions across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Each region holds regular local meetings for its members which provide a good forum for contractors and manufacturers to network.

All NFRC contractors are vetted, their past contracts are inspected and the level of craft skill, technical competence and financial stability assessed to ensure you will be using a reputable roofer and not a cowboy. The NFRC also has a Code of Practice which sets out strict guidelines on standards and business practices which members must adhere to. A Health and Safety Advisory Service is also available to keep members up to date on all Health and Safety legislation.

The Federation has a variety of tailor-made insurance packages which members can offer to their clients, because independent insurance is a prudent precaution to take even though most contractors will offer their own insurance guarantee. These independent guarantees give the client added peace of mind for up to 10 years for domestic work and 15 years for commercial work. A typical domestic insurance guarantee costs 20 for the whole 10 years.

The NFRC offers free help and advice in the unlikely event of a dispute between an NFRC contractor and their client. There is a free and impartial conciliation and arbitration procedure that operates to ensure that problems are dealt with quickly and fairly. In addition the NFRC provides a free technical and advisory service to members and clients alike covering products, design and usage to ensure the NFRCs high standards are maintained.

The NFRCs benefits aim to highlight the federations broad membership base, which includes manufacturers and suppliers as well as roofing contractors working together to provide the best service for clients.

If you have any doubt on who to trust with your roof, whether you need a repair, a new roof or are replacing an existing roof, using an NFRC member to do the work will give you peace of mind as well as a weatherproof roof.
