Preferences - Transcoding Tab

Options Menu

SIREN's auto-transcoding feature allows you to convert music, selected for download to a portable player, to a different file format or bitrate. First, however, you must specify the transcoding settings for the portable player. This procedure can be done before or after files have been selected for downloading. You can also store the transcoding settings in a custom template so that you do not have to access and specify settings in the Custom Settings dialog every time you want to use these settings.

What do you want to do?

Configure SIREN for auto-transcoding

  1. From the Options menu, choose Preferences and click on the Transcoding tab (or click on the Auto-Transcoding Settings button in the Portable Player tab.

  2. Specify a transcoding format from the Auto-transcode format drop-down list.

  3. Select the transcoding bitrate from the drop-down list (available ripping formats vary based on the selected transcoding format).

  4. Click on the Custom button to specify custom settings. For information on each setting available in the Custom Settings dialog, click on the What's This? help button and then on the item.

  5. Click OK. The dialog closes and SIREN's main screen displays.

  6. Click on the Auto-Transcode check box near the command bar.

When songs are sent to the portable player list, those that can be transcoded have a status of Transcode Pending. Files that do not require transcoding will have a status of Waiting to Transfer. The files are transcoded automatically when you initiate the download process.

Save transcoding settings in a custom template

This procedure assumes that you have specified all settings for the transcoding format.

  1. From the Custom Settings dialog (via clicking on the Custom button) enter a new name in the Template text box.

  2. Click on the Save Template button . The settings are saved in a custom template under the specified name.

Once created, your custom template is listed at the bottom of the Transcoding tab Bitrate drop down box for future use. To delete a template, click on the Delete button .
