Sayur Asem (Indonesian Sour Vegetable Soup)

Things to prepare:


2 Corn (chop into at least 8 pieces)
� Cup of uncooked ground nuts
Kangkung (OnChoy)
Cabbage
Long Bean
Beef / Chicken Broth (unseasoned)

Ingredients (Group 1):
2 Cloves Garlic
1 Clove Shallot
1 Green Onion
1 Tomato
4 thin slices Laos / Lengkuas
� Whole Red Bell Pepper
1 � 2 Chili (Optional)
3 Bay Leaves

Ingredients (Group 2):
1 tsp Salt
2 Tbsp Sugar
Tamarind

Instructions:

1) Soak the nuts in 2 cups of water overnight
2) The next day, in a small pot, boil the nuts in the same water until it is cooked. Do not discard the water
3) Chop the garlic, shallot, green onion, tomato and red bell pepper
4) In a medium size pot, pour the broth, add 4 cups of water, and all the ingredients in Group 1 and bring to boil. (Chili � depends on how spicy you want it to be)
5) Pour in the nuts with water, add corns and long beans
6) When they are soft, add the cabbage and on choy
7) Bring to boil, then add ingredients from Group 2 (Tamarind - depends on how sour you want it to be)
8) Ready to serve
