Things to prepare:

Pie Crust (store bought or home-made)

Filling::
3 lbs. white potatoes
1 large onion (any type, depends on taste)
1 lb steak or ground beef

Instructions:

Crust:
1) Make pie crust for top/bottom.
2) Roll out bottom crust and put into glass pie plate or corning dish. If you dont want flour all over the kitchen, use store bought pie crustbut make sure you use a small pie plate as this is a high dish and the pre cut store crust top usually wont fit over a 9 pie plate by the time you fill it high.

Filling:
1) Peel, rinse and slice potatoes like you would for scalloped potatoes (very thin sliced).
2) Slice onion thin or chop it fine.
3) Chop steak into small pieces.
4) Layer the above prepped ingredients into bottom of pie crust in this order:
-potatoes
-onion
-meat
5) Add salt and pepper between layers. As you will have at least 2 or 3 layers, I would go easy on the salt/pepper on each layer-just a little each layer.
6) Layer until a high pie forms or you run out of stuff. Try to end with a potato layer on top as anything on top will stick to the upper crust, so I like to end on potato.
7) If you are using steak, put 2 or 3 small pats of butter on the top and add top crust. You dont need to add butter when using ground beef, as fat from the beef will keep things moist.
8) Pinch close the top crust to the bottom crust and put a small cut in the top crust for steam vent.
9) Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour or until a knife stuck into the center feels like the potatoes are cooked through.
10) Cut and serve.
