Restaurant: Tai Fung Lau Peking Restaurant
Location: 29-31 Chatham Road, M/F Windsor Mansion, Kowloon, Hong Kong
Tel: 852-2366-2494

Went out last week with a dirty dozen to this Pekinese restaurant located on a quiet area in the busy Tsimshatsui.  It may not be too easy for strangers to locate this restaurant at the first time, as it is situated in a small lane on Chatham Road, on a mezzanine floor of a small building.

The deco of Tai Fung Lau is simple, just neat and tidy, with about 20 serving tables occupying the whole mezzanine floor.  Male members should pay attention: one of the waitresses with long ginger hair (tinted as she is Asian) and model look is very pretty, sweet and the most important, she
provides service with "personal touch".  Check it out yourself!

After two kilos of "Mao Tao" (Chinese wine recommended to drink with a plum to extract its strong flavor), we ordered a lot of dishes.  Warning: They serve American portion.  The food standard is above average in general with three special dishes highly recommended:  Fried pig ears (very crunchy and hot); Bean curds fried with 3 kinds of vegetable and slices of pork; Sliced chicken with bean sprouts and braised on peanut butter sauce.

I also recommend the desserts we had : fried apple and banana fritters - man, it tasted so good and melted the minute you put it into your mouth.  And don't forget to try their black sesame sweet dumpling soup, the special about this dessert is: you can see a small amount of rice floating in the
soup, it doesn't taste anything but it reduces the sweetness from the dumplings.

Even though we had ordered more than 20 dishes in total, plus wine and dessert, the cost for our dinner rounded up to HK$130 a piece.  We left the restaurant with a full stomach and can merely managed to walk the same speed as a tortoise -  perfect speed to walk in the neighborhood anyway.

By the way, if any one of you want to make a booking, just call the Managing Director, Steve Wan who just repatriated from Australia.

P.S.  If you think the night is still young on a Friday evening, you may consider to move over to one of those bars in the Kowloon Lan Kwai Fong area: right inside Knutford Terrace.
