CARME - MOON OF JUPITER | |
Carme was the daughter of Euboulos. She was the mother of Britomartis, the Cretan goddess of the mountains and hunting. Carme was discovered by Seth Nicholson in 1938.
Orbit | |
Carme orbits Jupiter in a retrograde direction at an average distance of 22.6 million kilometres, taking 692 days to complete one orbit. Carme's length of day is unknown. In common with the other outer moons of Jupiter, Carme's orbit is both eccentric (0.207), and has a high inclination (164o).

Physical properties | |
Carme has a diameter of about 40 kilometres. Its average density is 2800 kg m-3. Again, like the other small moons of Jupiter, Carme is probably a captured asteroid.
Interior | |
The interior of Carme is unknown.
Magnetic field | |
No magnetic field has been detected.
