CALIBAN - MOON OF URANUS

Caliban is a character from Shakespeare's play "The Tempest". He is the deformed slave of Prospero the magician. Caliban was discovered by Brett Gladman in 1997 using the Hale telescope.

Orbit
Caliban orbits far beyond Oberon, previously the outermost satellite, at a distance of 7.2 million kilometres from Uranus. Caliban is an irregular satellite. The other known moons of Uranus have almost circular orbits, whereas Caliban traces an elliptical path about Uranus. This points to Caliban having originated as an asteroid.
