The MicroEye (ISA) Compression board compresses and decompresses large image files of all of all current standard formats (TIFF, TARGA, PCX) according to the JPEG standard. You can compress and decompress files from the DOS prompt and from applications like WINgrab, 2C Capture or MicroScale TC. Choose a compression factor between 5 and 100, depending on the complexity of the image. For high quality images, a compression factor of 30 produces excellent results. For fast data compression, the MicroEye Compression board can be linked via transputer link to the real time color digitizers MicroEye Picture Book Board or MicroEye TC/TM. The libraries supplied with these boards also support the MicroEye Compression board. Via a third link, it's possible to connect a transputer controlled hard drive for the quickest possible data backup. The main items of the MicroEye Compression board are two transputers which are supported by several peripheral processors in executing the compression algorithms. Transputers are high performance microprocessors that are specially optimized for parallel processing. The algorithm corresponds to the ISO/CCITT JPEG (Joint Picture Experts Group) standard for still image data compression. It is based on discrete cosinus transformation (DCT) and Huffmann coding of the frequency amplitudes. With the functions contained in the C-Library, users can link communication with the MicroEye Compression board to any other applications.
