See section 2 for a list of files and their purpose. Information in this file may not appear in the manuals. Please read this file carefully to be aware of any changes to the documentation. Information in files on this disk supercedes the printed documentation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Disk Contents Each installation directory for contains the following files: DATE.DOC file identifying the disk, production date, etc. README.TXT this file LIESMICH.TXT German version of this README file SETUP.EXE installation program ELSAD.DLL language resource file ELSAE.DLL --------- " ---------- ELSAD.HLP help file (german) ELSAE.HLP help file (english) WS3INIT.DLL installation program harware support ELSAUI.DSC configuration files ELSAUI.DSP -------- " -------- SVGADATA.PMI -------- " -------- VSVGA.SYS MDOS device driver (extended mode) WINDOWS WINOS2 device driver for the WINNER board VIDEOMM OS/2 device driver for the WINNER board SCREEN01.SYS physical devide driver (PDD) TESTSCR.EXE program showing the testscreen FILTER.EXE EnDIVE Filter Set utility WINNER WINNER configuration file WINMAN.MON WINman monitor file ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Installation These drivers can only be used under OS/2 Warp. To guarantee a successful installation, be sure to have the original VGA driver installed and active. 3.1 Restoration of the original VGA driver Use the restore option at system boot time (Alt+F1) and reset the primary display to VGA (Key V). Consult your OS/2 handbook for further information. You have to reboot the system for the change to take effect. !!!! ATTENTION !!!! If you have previously used the driver version 1.00.0x beta, you have to delete the WS3INIT.DLL in the \OS2\DLL directory prior to the installation procedure. 3.2 Installation of version 1.xx ELSA Warp drivers Insert your ELSA CD into your drive, open the CD-ROM drive object on your desktop, change to the OS/2 directory appropriate for your graphics card (i.e., \WINNER\2000AVI\OS2) and start SETUP.EXE. The contents of this file should appear on the "Introduction" page. 3.3 Using the setup program On the "Adapter Info" page you may view information about your graphics adapter. Use the "Help" function for detailed explanations of the displayed items. You will have to specify your monitor and the desired graphics resolution on the "Resolution" page. Please be sure that the information concerning your monitor is correct and complete (particularly the scan rates) in order to avoid damaging your monitor. You have to check the selected resolution using the "Test" button, or the mode will not be accepted. Use the "Installation" page to select the files to transfer to your hard disk and to start the installation process. Use the "Help" button in order to get further information. After completion of the installation you have to shut down and reboot your system. OS/2-Warp will start with the selected resolution. If you have specified the resolution manager in the installation procedure, you can use it for changing the selected resolution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Notes 4.2 WIN-OS/2 Configuration : To change the standard configuration, use the Windows program WINman which is automatically started after first calling WINOS2. An online help is available. By default, the ELSA Windows Driver WINNER08.DRV is installed with a resolution of 640x480x256. The WINNERxx.Drv (in WINDOWS) are copied to the WINOS/2 directory during the installation. You don't have to copy and expand this driver from the GUI-disk. 4.3 OS/2 Warp Version 3 The Installation is enhanced to run under this OS2 Version. 4.4 De-Installation: 1. Reset to VGA see 3.1 for this step. 2. delete the files - BVHSVGA.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll) - WINNERMM.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll) - WS3ACCEL.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll) - WS3INIT.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll) example: DEL C:\OS2\DLL\WINNERMM.DLL etc. This steps are necessary, because the DSPINSTL.EXE (before WARP II) doesn't work correct. 3. delete the window drivers and WINman - WINNER??.DRV (..\WINOS2\SYSTEM or ..WINDOWS\SYSTEM) - WINIC31.DLL - WINman.exe (..\WINOS2\SYSTEM or ..WINDOWS\SYSTEM) (older version in WINDOWS directory) - WINMAENG.HLP - WINMAENG.DLL - WINMAN.INI - WINMAN.MON 4.5 supported boards - all WINNER Boards of the AVI, PRO/X and GLoria serie. - WINNER 1000TRIO and WINNER 1000TRIO/V 4.6 This Version is a 8/16 and 32bpp color Driver and for all possible Screen Resolutions. Tu use the hardware support of the DIVE interface, you must have 64MB of address soace available in your system. This is determined and configured by the driver. A failure will occur if any of the following conditions holds: a) PCI BUS computer : - more than 4031MB of address space used already unlikely. - older system BIOS (non PCI-conforming) fix: place the following line into your CONFIG.SYS: SET VIDEO_APERTURE=A00 This allocated the 64MB Video aperture at 2,5GB in your address space. Be sure this does not conflict with address space requirements of other cards you use. b) VL Bus computer : - more than 64MB of main memory fix: none available - BIOS assigned an invaliued address fix : add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS: SET VIDEO_APERTURE=40 This assigns addresses following the first 64MB to your video board. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Caveats / Known Problems 6.1 WINOS2 With some monitors, you can't use a refresh rate different from that of the WPS. In this case you will see a black screen (or something else) in the WINOS/2 Session. WINNER WINOS2 and Seamless Driver: Use only the WINNERxx.DRV OS/2-Driver Disk. These files are copied by the installation utility. 6.2 Lotus 1-2-3 f. OS/2 Vers. 2.0 Lotus 1-2-3 runs only in 8BPP modes. 6.3 Software and Color Cursor For the following configuration no software cursor is available: 2 MB Video RAM: 1600 x 1280 x 8 BPP Work around: Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 8 BPP 4 MB Video RAM: 1600 x 1280 x 16 BPP Work around: Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 16 BPP 8 MB Video RAM: 1600 x 1280 x 32 BPP Work around: Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 32 BPP 6.4 Hardware video acceleration for the WINNER 1000TRIO/V is only possible for one video at a time. Additional videos will be replayed using software motion video. fix: for optimal performance, finish one video before you start the next. In addition, the selected screen resolution should leave enough free video memory for storing a frame of the required resolution. This will usually not be the case with a resolution of 800x600 at 32bpp with 2MB of video memory. Again, if the driver cannot use the hardware acceleration, it will revert to software motion video. fix: choose a graphics resolution smaller than the available maximum. When using the WINNER 1000TRIO/V, hardware video shrinking will not function properly in all cases. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. EnDIVE You can use the "ELSA EnDIVE Filter" tool for setting and viewing various parameters of EnDIVE. For testing purposes or when using programs with faulty EnDIVE support you can switch off EnDIVE entirely (this has to be done before starting such programs) and control the use of X and Y filters. The "Video Memory" display informs you about your usage of the free offscreen memory. 7.1 X and Y filtering These filters improve image quality for scaled AVI movies. The X filter interpolates the pixels in the horizontal dimension and the Y filter in the vertical dimension. Y filtering works only if sufficient offscreen memory is available. It is ignored otherwise. The settings for the filters are done via the "ELSA EnDIVE Filter" tool. X filtering is set by default. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Adjustments By the use of the SET command in the CONFIG.SYS you can adjust some behaviors of the driver. 8.1 SET VIDEO_APERTURE=xxx see 4.4 8.2 SET ELSA_RESET=[H|L] Use this to reset the selected resolution to one of these : H = 1024x768x8@75Hz L = 640x480x8@60Hz This setting is valid as long as it appears in the CONFIG.SYS. 8.3 SET USE_FIXPAK17=[0|1] Use this setting to avoid defect icons on a system with a fixpak 17 and in a true colour mode. 1 = fixpak 17 installed 0 = no fixpak 17 8.4 SET USE_SMALL_FONTS=[0|1] To use the small icons in a high resolution mode. 1 = small icons should be used in a high res mode 0 = default icon size should be used.
