File Search

Net Vampire allows you to find alternate locations for the existing Job. It also allows to perform search for a new file and create a new Job based on the search results.

In addition to FTP search, this program allows you to find HTTP locations of the file using the Web search engines, such as Yahoo, Alta Vista or Excite.

  • Click on the Find tab and fill in the File Name box. If one (and only one) Job was selected in the JobList, its file name will appear in the box automatically.

  • Select one or more search engines in the list and click the Start/Stop Search button. Note that Web search is somewhat slower than FTP search, so use it only if you need to find HTTP locations or if FTP search didn't bring any results.

  • The list of found locations is displayed on the right panel. You can sort it by any column and switch between full URL and site name display format using context menu commands. It's a good idea to test found sites as described in the Site Speed Testing section before adding the locations to the Job List.

  • Select some or all locations and add them to the existing Job or create a new Job using context menu commands. The Add To Existing Job command is enabled only if the File Name box was filled automatically based on the selected Job.
