Phoenix Mail Language Kit ------------------------- 1. Phoenix Mail Application ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Phoenix Mail must be running at the startup of the Language Kit, because the actual caption of the controls is fetched at runtime. When you start the Language Kit, make sure, that in Phoenix Mail no modal dialogs are running and there is no online connection, because Phoenix Mail would crash. (I'm sorry about this!) It is very helpful to turn on the "Select Language"-dialog in the Environment Options of Phoenix Mail, because you can switch at every startup of Phoenix Mail between the original language and the translated language. 2. Accelerators ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Accelerator keys enable the user to access a command from the keyboard by pressing Alt+ the appropriate letter, indicated by a "&"-character. Keep an eye on it, that you don't use the same accelerator character within the same dialog. The accelerator letter is usually one of the first characters in a word. 3. Placeholders ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If there is a string containing a "%s" then this is a placeholder and will be replaced at runtime with an value. Don't forget to include the "%s" in your translated string, because it is necessary and would crash without it. 4. Dots ~~~~~~~ Don't forget the dots! Sometimes there is a ":" or a "..." and they are likely forgotten. 5. Ending spaces ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sometimes the strings have endings spaces. You don't have to worry about them, because they will be added automatically at runtime. So don't insert ending spaces! 6. Length ~~~~~~~~~ Make sure that the translated text is not longer than the original text and test *all* dialogs for non-fitting-text. You can send me your Language Files... ---------------------------------------- 10.02.1999 Michael Haller phoenix@discountdrive.com http://www.discountdrive.com/sunrise/
