Locking Pages in Memory

A page fault interrupts a process for many milliseconds. Not only are page faults lengthy, their occurrence and frequency are unpredictable. A real-time application with a frame rate above a few Hertz cannot tolerate such interruptions. The solution is to lock some or all of the pages of your address space into memory. A page fault cannot occur on a locked page.
