PPP Kit for the Macintosh This installer was created by the University of HawaiŒi¹s (UH) Information Technology Services (ITS) group. It will install MacTCP, MacPPP, and some network clients onto your hard drive with customizations for UH users*. The MacTCP and MacPPP software allow you to connect to the Internet via a modem and use network clients such as Telnet. *The customizations are intended for users of the ITS modem pool (956-5080). Outer island campus users should check with their own network/computer specialists for any necessary changes. As of 9/3/96, a second phone number, 979-2400, is available. This new phone number supports modem speeds of up to 28.8 bps. Here is what is installed and where: MacTCP Control Panels folder ConfigPPP Control Panels folder PPP Extensions folder Fetch Network Clients folder NCSA Telnet Network Clients folder StuffIt Expander Network Clients folder Preferences for all of the above are installed in your Preferences folder. However, if you have existing Preferences for any of the above, they will not be overwritten by the installer. If you do the standard install, all pieces will be installed. If you do a custom install, you can choose what will be installed. When the install is finished, there will be a folder on your hard drive (or wherever you indicate) called Network Clients folder. In this folder will be the network clients Fetch, Telnet, and StuffIt Expander. The software is installed ready for UH use. For example, MacTCP and MacPPP are installed ready to connect to the UH modem pool, Telnet comes with pointers to the uhunix* systems, and Fetch will be pointing to the UH anonymous ftp site, ftp.hawaii.edu. If you would like to use the World Wide Web browser Netscape, you will need to get an additional set of installation diskettes from the ITS Help Desk in Keller 105. You will need 3 high density diskettes. Install Procedure 1. Double click on the PPP Kit Installer icon. 2. Click Continue. 3. An informational screen will appear (what you are reading now).
