Introduction ================ IBM's Internet Connection Phone enables real-time, full-duplex voice communication over TCP/IP networks, such as LAN or Internet. It is based on IBM's technology for real-time transfer of voice over data networks. ======================= 1. System Requirements ======================= a. 486 (100Mhz+ recommended) / Pentium PC running Windows 3.X or Windows95. b. Mwave card with build 2.0 or higher. c. A network connection through a token ring card to a LAN, or through a modem and SLIP/PPP to an Internet provider. d. A microphone and speaker (or headphones) connected to the Mwave. ======================= 2. Installing IC Phone ======================= a. For Windows 3.1 or WINOS2: - In Program Manager, select File then Run from the menu bar. - On the Command Line of the Run dialog box, enter: d:\install (where 'd:' is the drive on which the IC Phone install program is located) For Windows 95: - Select the Start task from the task bar, then select Run. - On the Run line, enter: d:\install (where 'd:' is the drive on which the IC Phone install program is located) b. Follow the installation instructions. c. Connect to your provider using the IAK or any other Internet access software. For best results, you should connect with V.42 compression disabled (see note at the end of this document). If you are using the Mwave card as the modem, you should set it to work in "14400" mode on IBM Thinkpad machines (without V.34). ====================== 3. Operating IC Phone ====================== a. To activate the software, double click on the IC Phone icon. b. From the main window, choose 'Setup', enter your email address and the IC Phone server's address, and click "OK". c. Press the 'Call' button, and enter the email of the person you wish to call. To see a list of all the users who are currently logged on, press the User List button. d. When you finish the call, press the 'Hangup' button. Further information can be found in the on-line help. ========================= 4. Uninstalling IC Phone ========================= a. To remove IC Phone, double-click the "IC Phone Uninstall" icon that was installed with the product. b. To complete the removal of IC Phone, you need to run EPFIDEFI.BAT from the root directory of your boot drive. This removes the IC Phone Uninstall program itself. ======================================================================== Note about disabling V.42 compression To get better performance from IC Phone, you should disable the V.42 compression of the modem. The following describes how to disable V.42 compression for various system configurations : Windows95 --------- 1. From the "My Computer" folder, open "Dial-up Networking". 2. Click the right mouse button on the "IBM Global Network" object, and select "Properties" from the popup menu. 3. In the Properties dialog box, press the "Configure" button. 4. In the Configure dialog box, choose the "Connection" tab. 5. Press the "Advanced..." button. 6. In the Advanced Connection Settings dialog box, uncheck the "compress data" checkbox. 7. Press "OK" on all the open dialog boxes. Windows3.1 + IAK ---------------- To disable V.42 compression for an Mwave/IAK/Windows 3.1 system, do the following: 1. In IAK, highlight the entry for your connection, and press the 'Modify' button. In the modem configuration page, change the first modem initialization string from 'AT&F' to 'AT*TH8'. In the second initialization string, change '\N*' (where '*' is a number) to '\N0' ============================================== 5.
